My take on JA98

Recommended Posts

Once Jamaal gets his first sack, the sacks are going to rain down from the heavens.

It's like this. He is like that nice proper school girl who was kept bottled up and innocent by Mommy and Daddy. Then she goes to college, gets wild at one party and is a total whore from then on.

We just need the Bears game to be that dirty party.

B)

I hope you guys didn't think this was going to be an analytical break down...

From the locker room interview:

Question: What was going through your mind?

JA98: Honestly, I'm not sure. I guess once that first sack game, everything else started coming. I was really in the zone. Just working hard week in week out, I knew it was eventually going to come. I had plenty of support from my teammates, and today was my day.

I called it...he's gonna be such a whore from now on, especially with that whore-confidence :D

So can we please stop including Orakpo or Michael Johnson in our mock drafts? There's no need to draft a DE that high.

Haha! What a call! Hopefully he can keep this "whoring" up. :P

so what are we going to draft? a safety?

theres a reason the giants have as good of a pass rush as they do (or as they did) and its not because they skimped on the defensive line (especially at DE).

if we got orakpo wed have a legitimate replacement for abraham when his contract expires in 3 years and i can only dream of a pass rush involving abraham, orakpo, babineaux and anderson all at once.

however, id be just fine with shaughnessy in round 2. my point is that we could still use a DE. one game does not a career make. if anderson keeps playing this well for the rest of the year perhaps ill reconsider, but until he plays like this (or something consistently good) for the rest of the year ill keep calling for orakpo to boost the rush. even though he played well today we still didnt have a great rush against the bears. we still need pass rush help.

Corner maybe??? Like I've been pushing since camp started.

I do understand your point regarding more DL help though, and we do need it, even if this was a break thru game for JA98.

Robb who is your favorite corner in the draft? I also agree that corner should be considered with 1st round pick.

d*mn you and your logic robb!

i dont know, id be open to ciron black (for RT) or BJ Raji in the early-mid 20's i think. (thats just a guess based off of our current standings).

however, outside of vontae davis and malcolm jenkins im not wild about many of the corners (at least not for our kind of defense). there seem to be some good, fast, man coverage oriented guys but not many good zone coverage guys (at least available in the 1st, or valued there). And i am of the opinion that malcolm jenkins could be a great FS in the NFL, but hed also be great in zone coverage.

however, i really want to see what we have in chevis. hes been close to a couple picks the last couple weeks. he gets good jumps on the ball. once he has some experience hes going to come away with a bunch of those.

i just want to see our guys develop a bit before we go ahead and replace them with 1st and 2nd round picks, but thats jmo. and i agree, we still need upgrading along the defensive line.

I'd like to see Chevis & Foxworth play some more this year. Houston looks lost a lot. Grimes is tough, but he's just so small its really hard for him to match up.

i agree with you on chevis and foxy. hopefully they both get a lot more PT as the year goes on. im excited for chevis to start making some plays. he seems to be playing very well in the slot though (at least as far as rookies are concerned).

its sad but its true, houston seems to be lost a bit. i think thats because he is best in man coverage. on the play where davis scored he was playing a zone and just reacted about .5 to 1 second too late to make a play on the ball or prevent the catch. houston is good in man but since we seem to be running a lot of zone its not exactly his thing. however when i see him in man coverage (obviously im not watching him all the time) it seems that he is playing well. maybe that is just a few isolated incidents, however we all knew when we drafted him that hed be best in man. its unfortunate for him that we made such a quick transition to playing a lot of zone, but with chevis, grimes and foxworth hopefully we will have enough talent to play well.

i am starting to see your point about our corners however. the more i think about it the more it seems grimes is just a little outmatched (maybe best in the slot?) and that houston might be better in a man coverage scheme (or one where it is the main focus, not the cover-2 zone that i think we run). if thats the truth... we might be looking for a corner in the first 2 rounds. if we cant get malcolm jenkins (its not looking like we will) i think id go for one in the 2nd. some of the guys i see in the late first appear to be more man-coverage oriented.

Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Michael Strahan, and crew > John Abraham, Orakpo, Jamaal Anderson.

And our defense isn't that of the Giants'. We don't aggressively blitz almost every play like they do. If you really wanted to turn into the mold of NYG's defense you have to look harder for a blitzing OLB more than a DE. Jamaal Anderson does not have the same skill set as Justin Tuck either, so although he may move inside every now and then, he will never bring the same pressure as Justin Tuck can from the inside.

I don't think Anderson will not be a bust anymore. You never know what he'll do this season. But I think either way, there's no point in drafting a DE when there are players still on the board that will still make more of an impact than a DE would. I'm thinking if Oher, Monroe, Crabtree, Davis, Mays, and Smith are off the board, we can start looking at other positions...
