atljbo
Whispers — NFC SouthThomas unlikely to see much action in Saints' backfieldOct. 11, 2008 Sources in New Orleans don’t expect RB Pierre Thomas to be heavily involved in the Saints’ offense for the rest of this season, barring an injury. Thomas has remained on kickoff-return duty, but his time in the backfield has declined since Deuce McAllister took on a greater role in the offense in Week Four. Word is head coach Sean Payton does not like to game-plan for three running backs, and for now, Reggie Bush and McAllister are Nos. 1 and 2. Thomas has a future with the team, we hear, but he may be stuck in the backseat the rest of this season. Word out of Carolina is the Panthers have more depth on their offensive line than many had originally thought. Injuries have forced the team to turn to backups Geoff Hangartner, Jeremy Bridges and Frank Omiyale, each of whom made at least one start through the first five weeks of the season, yet the Panthers still managed to go 4-1. Carolina didn’t just get by; it actually thrived even though the original starting five on the O-line in Week One had spent barely over one full half playing together entering Week Six. The Falcons have struggled to get much of a pass rush from anyone but DE John Abraham, and sources say one of the reasons has been that OLB Michael Boley is dropping into coverage, rather than blitzing, much more often that in past years. Abraham had seven of the team’s nine sacks heading into Week Six. In order to get more pressure, we hear Atlanta may want to consider tweaking their plan to let Boley loose more frequently. We hear Bucs WR Joey Galloway is hoping to be back in Week Seven, if not Week Six, from a foot sprain that has sidelined him since the second game of the season. Observers of the team say if he’s at full speed when he returns, he’ll be a difference maker. Tampa has struggled to stretch the field, and defenses have been cutting off the deep pass with great success since Galloway went down.I like Michael Boley blitzing
dirtycanadianbird
I wouldn't mind seein him blitz more.Course if he had blitzd on that play in GB that wouldn't have been a pick.Mighta been a sack but no pick...

harveybirdman
I don't know.... I don't see us taking are best LB in coverage off of his primary responsibility....Course if blitzing works great.... they just better freaking get there.... Which we haven't done much this year. The Don™
Van Gorder drops the LB in coverage a lot b/c our young corners need help. Last year's system had the corners by themselves with a lot of blitzes from Boley and the LB group. I think the defense will take a little while to develop. I think TD will focus on defense this off season.

bigmildog
Yeah, I'm all about Boley coming on the Blitz! I would love to see it.
Lord Sarcomere
we should seriously let Boley blitz. This guy is a monster when he's rushing the passer.I also like putting Stephen Nicholas in on third down at LDE because this guy has got moves, and he can get pressure on the QB. I would also like to see him in more 3-4 sets rushing the passer.
leo4prez
Bump. When going to the three man line I would send Nicholas on delayed blitzes as well.

xFalconLord
If they want to blitz boley more Nicholas will see a lot more plays out there. I could see Brook, Nicholas and Boley in there to zone blitz. I could also see nicholas in with Lofton and Boley on the zone blitz. Sounds good, but we just need to make sure were getting to the QB when we bring the heat.

cwell1
curtis lofton is a run stuffer not a pass stopper.says who,he can do both. The ints he made at Oklahoma are not made by pure run stoppers. He may not be dominant at it but he shouldn't be off the field like that all the time,it hurts us, Brooking is steady giving up completions so what is there to lose? he can only get better. He comes out and all they do is run it and of course Brooking gets pushed out of the way. Nicholas should continue to play more and take more of Brookings snaps.
FalconFanForLife
Well we sure need more pressure, but earlier this year we did more LB blitzes, and unless my memory is faulty (probably the case), I think we did not have any success getting to the QB. But you have to keep trying new things to keep the opponent offguard so BLITZ away.
