MagnusXXIII
I have never spent so little time during a game cursing over the offensive play calling after decades of being a Falcons fan.Good riddance to Knapp's evil scientist one dimentional multi-dimensionalism...Or Reeves and Bennett's run the ball twice then throw.Mularkey knows what he is doing .... for once better than the fans. kdkane79
Amen!!! I hate offenses that run, run, and pass every single series. I'm suprised they even get a touchdown using that mentality. I guess the only way they really score is on defensive screw ups becsause if you know run or pass on any given play you should be able to stop it most of the time. Norwood32
For the most part it's been good. However there have been some terrible calls. One of the best I've seen was when we ran the reverse with Douglas against GB. It was perfect.
sporkdevil
I agree, except for the goal line decisions against Tampa. I believe two visits consisted entirely of passing the ball. That is why we got FG's, and no TD's.

It's been good to excellent for the most part, but some of the calls sure have been questionable...
FalconFanSince1970
...Or Reeves and Bennett's run the ball twice than throw.LMAO. Reeves was the master at game planning and first half playcalling. He was average in second half adjustments but still took four teams to the playoffs. Most of them with average to below average talent.

Falcons Ace
I don't see the problems people have with the play-calling we have had so far. People act like the best play calling in the world is going to make us execute better or cover up lack of talent, it's not going to happen. collinr01
I love the play calling so far.. and I have a strong feeling we are gonna bust out the WILD BIRD formation again at home in a big game
jlbrewmaster
Mularkey is O.K., but he still has momentary lapses of reason. I have watched every play of every game and one thing is clear. Mike Mularkey has very little imagination I think his playbook is 2 pages thick. However that being said it is still early with a rookie qb, so I will reserve judgement for now. They are 3-2 right now, but this will not last if he doesnt open the playbook to page
DUB
I'm pleased but I wasnt pleased with the play calling in the Tampa game. The play that brought on the interception in the Green Bay game annoyed me because I felt at that point we needed to keep the ball on the ground. Worst case senerio would of been 3 points which would have made it a two score game at that point. In the end we won but it became too close for comfort after that. DUB
But if it was a TD it would have been a beautiful play-call and Mularkey would be a genius,,, If I had wings I would probably be able to fly........what is your point. Before they even lined up I verbally begged for a run play. The ball should have been kept on the ground at that point. Thats based on points and building a lead. MIss me with your sarcasm.
REV.2000
THE PLAY CALLING HAS BEEN GOOD OVER ALL, BUT TO SAY IT'S THE BEST IN FALCON PLAYCALLING HISTORY ......... IS VERY FAR FROM THE TRUTH.

Used to people would complain about being too predictable, now people complain because we don't do the obvious thing? If we can score points, score them. Obviously they were confident in Matt Ryan, and the play-call actually worked, the execution just wasn't there.

Nowhere did I say the fans need to be calling plays. My resume doesnt compare to Mularkey's and I'm aware of that. However 2 + 2 = 4 no matter what your job title is. There is playing conservative, playing safe, and playing smart. Running the ball at that point would have been playing it smart........last time I checked Michael Turner is leading the league in rushing yards. Last time I checked he was running wild on the Green Bay defense. There is predictable and there is stupid. In this league alot of the times they know what your doing because that is your DNA. The play wasnt bad and yes it was poorly executed HOWEVER it would of been wiser to keep the ball on the ground. Had it not been for the intentional grounding and the Boley int we would still be looking for that win on the road. You can roll your eyes all you want but I guarantee you that coaches would share my opinion for that situation. As Herm said "you play to win the game"........you dont play it to look cute. But a rookie in his 5th game should be handing the ball off in that situation late in the game. GB's line was wearing down and Turner behind left tackle would have been the smart call. I have not laid blame on anyone genius. I said in that situation the BEST thing to do is keep the ball on the ground. Now tinkerbell if you know any coaches go ask them what they would do in THAT situation. LOL @ how does the play calling get any better. How many points did that play earn us? Dip stick. Durrty
DUB...I gotta disagree with you dude...that was a great playcall...You have to understand that in order to win games, you must take risks. In that particular instance, it would've been obvious to run the ball and since we were running it so well up to that point, Green Bay was perfect for the play action. It only failed because of the interception. Now, I see what you're saying about playing conservative, but that play lets you know that Mularkey will play conservative but when he KNOWS there's an opportunity to make a big play, he takes it. It shows confidence in his offense and his players. Another reason I think it was a great playcall was because it put Ryan in a situation to make a big play and although he didn't execute, he learned a great deal from it...you saw it on the sidelines. Tandy
From my perspective, I believe the play-calling is still a work in progress. I think they are still building with this young team that hasn't played together for years and they are finding out what works and what doesn't. I believe there is so much to come and that Mularkey hasn't even tapped the basket yet. They are still perfecting the ones they have brought out and will be expanding the play calling as they feel the team is ready to handle it. With a rookie QB at the helm, albeit one who is a quick study and handling himself exceptionally well for a rookie, you can't throw every play you might feel is the best one to get the job done out - you have to work within the limitations of the QB and the rest of the team.I think they are doing a wonderful job. There are plays that I question, but I'm not a coach. I'm a fan and if a play doesn't work - then I question it. Just the nature of the NFL fan. Overall, we are 3 - 2. Better than anyone expected. Could we be 4-1 or 5-0 if the play calling was different - I don't know - maybe. But, I'm happy with 3-2 for this young team. I think we will continue to get better.I do know that last year, we had the most predictable play calling I have ever seen - I was frustrated during every game and could call every play before they made it - seriously - every play. So could every defense we played. This year, I'm enjoying the games - even when I don't get some plays - I know there are even better days to come.GO FALCONS!!!!
