REMEMBER WHEN WE HAD TWO GAMES WITH 300 YRDS RUSHING

I can't wait to see what happens when teams put 8 in the box trying to stop Turner and Ryan torches them. Uh oh. Rookie QB can play. They keep acting like he has no skills. Like the only way we can win is because Turner has a big game. Keep believing that please do. Ryan will make it look easy just like he did first play and when he play actioned and threw deep to White. Looks easy when you can play QB. All he has to work on is not staring down receivers and he will because he works at being good. None of the Falcons are satisfied with being mediocre. You can see the pride building and the confidence. Good to see the Falcons regain some swagger but it's a good swagger.

Notice the mistakes all the other teams are making that the Falcons were not making? All the penalties? This coaching staff knows what is important and the players do too. They get it now. And they will keep getting it because they want to be the best. Call me a dreamer but I see no reason we cannot compete with everyone we play if we limit our penalties and turnovers and continue to play hard. Good to see the team get off to a fast start too. The Steelers (and good teams in general) did that too. Most teams do not catch up well. Getting off to a fast start will only make it more difficult for whoever we play. And we will because teams still do not believe we are any good. Even after the Detroit game some Detroit players thought they were better than us. Respect will have to be earned one week at a time but it will be earned.

but detroit had to have entered that game thinkin that all they had to do was stop Turner and the running game and they had our offense wrapped up. And even still Turner put on a clinic. That HAS to be a good feeling!

I dont think it helps putting 8 in the box. If you look at Turner's runs it doesnt look like he's going to break any of them off for a chunk......he just stays on his feet and defenders dont wrap up well. Its like one of our players said.....its hard to tackle him because he's low to the ground and your getting hit with those knees and elbows. If you look at each of his runs none of them appear exciting untill he hits that space. What I mean by that is it just looks like he's going to get about four yards and then bam.....he's gone. He's going to be hard to defend and only true head hunters are going to stop him.

Whoops! Somebody here gets it. With a prototypical QB, 2 versatile and dangerous RB's capable of scorching you inside or outside, WR's that can get open, and get deep, NOW you have a lethal combination. A running QB making up 1/2 of your run game, and newbie receivers gave an exciting but very predictable and short lived success.

lol. matt is balling, no doubt. but it has nothing to do with prototypical qb. it is having a non azzclown OC. look how horrific the raiders o is looking . and guess who is calling the plays.

*any* half decent oc doesn't allow defenses to consistently line up 8 in the box. if there's no deterrent, teams will keep doing it. it wasn't rocket science.

Good point.

Mainly my "prototypical" comment points to having a qb who is in the pocket, and doing his checkdowns instead of immediately darting outside, looking at the primary, then looking for running lanes.

Disclaimer: In defense of the previous qb, green WR's and lousy OL protection played alot into that as well.

There's 2 moments for fans when Ryan is your quarterback. I've lived through both of them.

The first is when you realize the guy can check his reads at a lightning pace. His ability to use all his weapons on any play makes him very difficult to defend against. He still has to learn the complexities of pro defenses, but he learns fast.

The second is yet to come and it's the best feeling for a fan. It's the game where he might not have been playing his best and then suddenly goes lights out in crunch time. I can't wait to come to this board the first time it happens.

Point is, with the RB's you guys seem to have and that young line looking solid, you're going to have one of the more dynamic offenses in the game THIS year. Ryan needed guys who could play faster at BC. He would have wrecked the NCAA at a place like SC. He's just far better suited to the pros than college, and you can't say that about too many QB's.

Just like to add in there that i also welcome teams to think that all they need to do is shut down Turner and we are toast. That maybe true when we had Vick at times AND with teams like the Vikings or pretty much everyteam with a raw young QB but this is different. Firstly Ryan isnt raw, he is inexperienced but is as pro ready as any QB for years AND his game is based on decisions and accuracy-not the fact that he has a rocket launcher attached to his shoulder.

It looks like it will take 2-3 weeks for teams to slow down our running game and by that time Ryan's 15-20 throws a game should have put him in good stead to come out and hit our WR for 300+yards and throw 25 passes+ if needed. Basically what im trying to say is we rushed for 300 yards because we can and its our first preference BUT not because we HAVE to.

Hey, welcome back, haven't seen you posting here for a while. Good to have another very knowledgeable poster back for the season...

its not that big of a deal. but i only saw the game from the third quarter onward on sunday, and the thing that was remarkable to me was the use and effectiveness of the playaction and, in general, the play calling. i wouldn't describe ryan as a predominantly mobile qb (although he has good athleticism), but there he was, carrying out fakes and getting outside on the edge with our OC using the threat of the run game to his advantage. and he actually had multiple receivers in routes and those routes were designed to actually get people open.

contrast that to the raiders game last night (waste of my time) and knapp is up to his old tricks, 3rd and 7 with a slot receiver running a 1yd out route (wtf???) and the outside receiver running a route that is only 5yds and getting bumped, but its a timing route, so the qb only has the half field and essentially one receiver to work with. we had three years of that.

we used to still manage to have success, periodically, *despite* the non-catching wr's and terrible o-line but the players, by and large, weren't put in position to win.

ryan was very impressive and i'm very pleased that he's playing in a system where he looks like he'll have every opportunity to be successful and his talents will be accentuated and used for the betterment of the team.

Of every game I watched this week - the Falcons had the best playcalling I've seen. It seemed like every call was just meant to be there. They came in and stuck to the plan that every coach tries to say they will... Run the ball and play action off the run. They let our rookie qb have a nice comfortable game to get started in the nfl and he did great.

I see way to many coaches bail out and end up throwing 40 passes - Baltimore did that to Flacco even.

We had two very good rushing games using that gimmick read option. Once it got on film, our opponents gameplanned for it and shut it down.

Sunday, we were just using good-old-fashioned power football where our O-line simply beat the man lined up across from him. We won't run for 300 yards every week of course, but I feel better about this running game than I did about that gimmicky offense we ran in 2006.
