James Marten NFL Scouting Report

James Marten - 3rd Round pick of the Dallas Cowboys was waived today.

James Marten waived

He blocked for Ryan at BC and alot of people though he projected well to RT. His star has obviously fallen quite far because the Cowboys wrote him off after one year. However, the Cowboys have one of the best O-Line's in the NFL so it might have been to tough a unit for a 3rd rounder to really crack. Considering Dallas waived him to make room for a WR, a position that has been decimated by injury for them...this might have been a case of a team feeling good enough about the bounty of riches at one position to fortify another.

I'm usually loathe to suggest these posts, but RT looks to be an area that we might look to invest in heavily next off-season wither via FA or high draft pick and seeing whether or not a guy like Marten might progress to such a point where he could be considered a long term option could be worth it.

as dumb as this might sound Im actually sataisfied with how our oline has played in preseason we shall see how the season turns out plus having a QB that understands a defense and can get the ball out of his hand quick will only help...Next year we can go ahead in the off season and sign a top tier OT someone like Jordan Gross ...Gross and Baker on the outside will anchor this franchise for years to come

I do agree that our O-Line has exceeded expectations thus far. Is Alex Stepanovich a long term solution in terms of line depth though? Are Todd Weiner and or Tyson Clabo the future at RT? I think there is enough question around the long term prospects at those roster slots/positions to where you will still keep your eye out for the right player should they be available.

I don't think Marten would be available for the practice squad though...not sure.
