ORLANDO LEDBETTERThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionThursday, September 04, 2008Flowery Branch — Falcons sponsorship partners AirTran and WXIA-TV stepped forward at the deadline to purchase the remaining tickets to ensure a sellout for Sunday’s season opener against Detroit.According to NFL rules, a game must be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff to be televised locally, meaning the Georgia Dome had to be sold out by 1 p.m. Thursday.The team announced that as of late Wednesday afternoon 1,500 tickets remained unsold.In order to increase sales, the team offered discounted tickets to avoid the television blackout.The team sent out an e-mail Tuesday offering $10 off single-game ticket prices.The e-mail read: “With promising rookie Matt Ryan at the helm, Head Coach Mike Smith’s Atlanta Falcons charge into a new era of football this Sunday at the Georgia Dome when they host the Detroit Lions in the season opener.And we’re giving you $10 off the price of limited single game tickets when you order online between now and midnight Thursday. Hopefully, this won't happen at our next home game. yeah i hate it that it is like this, we need ot fill the dome up week in and week out, it can be VERY LOUD if we would just make it...
