Falcons close to completing trade for Foxworth

The Falcons are close to completing a trade for Denver cornerback Domonique Foxworth, a person familiar with the situation said Tuesday.

The Falcons will send a late-round draft pick to Denver for Foxworth, who is scheduled to arrive in Atlanta around 3 p.m. today. If he passes a physical, the trade will be completed.

Foxworth, who’s set to enter his fourth season in the NFL, would add some experience to the team’s young cornerback group. He was a third-round draft pick by the Broncos in 2005 (97th overall).

Foxworth, who played collegiately at Maryland, played in 46 games, including 18 starts, and had three career interceptions for the Broncos.

The Falcons are set to start second-year men Chris Houston and Brent Grimes at cornerback. Chevis Jackson, a rookie, has played nickel during the preseason.

Y'all should run to his plane like hes the President.

That'd be awesome. Have a few fans show up with some Falcon gear and welcome him aboard. He'll be siked (like Stold, a great southern word) to be a Falcon, and might even be ready to sign that extension before he ever sees Flavory Branch or the new digs in the dome.

Yeah it's gonna be very interesting to see how the defensive backfield shakes out now.

Who will the starters be? No matter, its always a great predicament when you have to choose between talented players. I hope he comes in here PUMPED up and ready to fight for a starting job myself. No knock on Houston or Grimes, but competition will only improve our team.

Foxworth will compete for the #2 but not for a couple games. He needs to learn the play book. houston is a prototypical cover 2 corner, so I think he will be fine after his injuries are fully healed (which i think they are). Our secondary is young, but could become a force in the future if they all reach their potentials.

He has played in a cover 2 in DEN since being in the NFL, so the transition should be very quick. He will play immediately, but probably in reserve for a week.
