Jamaal Anderson is bust

Recommended Posts

I researched the stats of all DE's drafted in the first round since 2000. Jamaal Anderson finished the season with zero sacks, which makes him the only one of them without a sack in their rookie season. Keep in mind, most of these guys were drafted later in the first round, and the majority of them were not even starters their first year. They also didn't have the luxury of playing opposite John Abraham. Way to go McKay.

Gaines Adams- 5 sacks / 31 tackles

Jamaal Anderson- 0 sacks 30 tackles

Jarvis Moss- 1 sack / 9 tackles

Mario Williams- 5 sacks / 47 tackles

Tamba Hali- 8 sacks / 63 tackles / 1 Int

Mathias Kiwanuka- 4 sacks / 53 tackles / 2 Int's

Marcus Spears- 2 sacks / 31 tackles

Luis Castillo- 4 sacks / 49 tackles

Will Smith- 8 sacks / 42 tackles

Kenechi Udeze- 5 sacks / 36 tackles

Kevin Williams- 11 sacks / 52 tackles /1 Int

Ty Warren- 2 sacks / 33 tackles

Michael Haynes- 2 sacks / 22 tackles

Tyler Brayton- 3 sacks / 61 tackles

Julius Peppers- 12 sacks / 36 tackles / 1 Int

Dwight Freeney- 13 sacks / 46 tackles

Bryan Thomas- 1 sack / 19 tackles

Charles Grant- 7 sacks / 31 tackles

Justin Smith- 9 sacks / 54 tackles / 2 Int's

Andre Carter- 7 sacks / 47 tackles

Jamal Reynolds- 2 sacks / 14 tackles

Courtney Brown- 5 sacks / 70 tackles

Shaun Ellis- 9 sacks / 53 tackles / 1 Int

Erik Flowers- 2 sacks / 20 tackles / 1 Int

Edit- I forgot Erasmus James- 4 sack/27 tackles

Don't label him bust until his 3rd season is over.

Agree, it's too early to call him a bust right now ... he played for a bad team with a even worse coach. Also remember how many people called Mario Williams a bust before last season started, and he finished with 14 sacks.

I didn't like drafting JA, because I thought he's more of a project than a player, who's ready to play in the NFL ... so give him 2 more seasons and wait what happens till then.

At least Mario Williams had 5 sacks his rookie season.

All you've proved is that you know how to read.

Patrick Kerney was no show-stopper his first couple of seasons (5 sacks total in 1999-2000), but is a perennial All-Pro now.

Last year's Falcon defense was almost a joke, and made worse by how pitiful the offense was. With no real scheme in place, or push up the middle from competent D-Linemen, to allow Anderson (or Abraham) to attack the corners of the opponent's offensive line, Atlanta's defense was strictly 'Read-and-React'.

Bad as the situation was, I had hoped the team would pick Glenn Dorsey this year to address those shortcomings, but the Ryan pick looks solid now, and better for the team's future, IF he can stay healthy.

Anderson has the talent to develop, and I have little doubt that more help is on the way on the defensive line next year, regardless of the record. Linebackers and secondary are already upgraded significantly, and the offense should at least put some points on the board this year.

Like a lot of fair-weather fans, you think you see a solution with numbers. Look a little deeper and you'll see defensive minds on the coaching staff that have some kind of clue as to what they're doing, and that knowledge will translate to better results on the field this season, regardless of what you might think the numbers prove to you.

And you proved that you can't. I said "since 2000". Kerney was drafted in 1999.

Either way, Kerney showed potential his first season, with 2.5 sack in limited playing time.

I am Lord Dark Helmet.

Only the newbies dare battle me. The rest know better.

Don't make me go DARTH TROLL on you.

Ive had both of them sign up on my falcons world website and make accounts they are both on different ip addresses and such. Funny thing is Tonabull did use to be MarcusV that was his alter ego where he use to be funny as heck and make some crazy shot out threads everyone loved.
