Falconfan4197
Its been a while since i have posted anything let alone even come to the boards.. so i would like to say hello to you all once again. Quick question on what you guys think of what happend with Marcus Pollard. We signed a not amazing but pretty good deal of talent and dumped him almost as soon as he got off the plane. Was there any thought process there?
FalconFan13
It's simple he didn't have as much left in the tank as we thought he would when 1st talking to him.
Headshot
We signed him to get info about Detroit, who he played for last year.
FalconsFanSC
My theory was he was signed to scare Milner back onto the field. Pollard is signed, Milner practices with pain and realizes it isn't the end of the world. Milner makes the squad and Pollard is sent packing. After Crumpler left the team I view the TE position as a bit of a drought... I was hoping to get Shockey until i heard he went to the Saints. rugger8
It happen every year in the NFL. There are always a few vets who have been cut, and picked up by other teams, who just realize why they were cut. He may be picked up mid season by someone, but he's about done. Voice of Reason
My theory was he was signed to scare Milner back onto the field. Pollard is signed, Milner practices with pain and realizes it isn't the end of the world. Milner makes the squad and Pollard is sent packing.Rather than make such a negative assumption about Milner, I prefer to think of Pollard's signing as an insurance policy just in case Milner was not ready. If he was unable to go or showed some lingering effects from his injury, we had a veteran which could step in temporarily until Milner was ready. the_ryan_express
Maybe he just failed his physical?? Why does it always have to be some kind of conspiracy on these boards! I bet if you wait around long enough, somebody will suggest he was unhappy after finding out that M.Vick probably wasn't going to be playing for the Falcons this season, and demanded a trade or his release!kw

the_ryan_express
no conspiracy... just a question.. time to look in the medicine cabinet for some zoloftWasn't directed at your question, rather all of the "my theory is" or "we were probably just getting info on Detroit" post that followed your question!kw
Magic Man
Simple, he was a quick pickup to provide depth at a position where we had none. Now that Milner is back, nuff said.

If he failed a physical he would not have been playing in the Baltimore game, which he was.
REV.2000
We signed him to get info about Detroit, who he played for last year.PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WANT TO KNOW HOW WE GOT IT OUT OF HIM.JUST TELL THEM, "WE HAVE OUR WAYS OF DEALING WITH PEOPLE LIKE HIM." BlacksburgHokie
I know something that the Pats usually do is use the last week or so of training camp to bring in an aging vet looking for work, and see how he does in practice. They cut him before the beginning of the season with the understanding that depending on how things work out, he could be added back to the roster if needed at some point during the season. The Pats did that this year with Lynch for example... bozoatl
My theory was he was signed to scare Milner back onto the field. Pollard is signed, Milner practices with pain and realizes it isn't the end of the world. Milner makes the squad and Pollard is sent packing.I actually thought that maybe Pollard was signed in case Milner had a serious problem and couldn't get back anytime soon, but your theory may be more on target. Beyond that, I don't know the time line, if Pollard was with IND when Smith was with BAL. If so, Smith saw him regularly when he was at his best. After he left IND, he never seemed to be the same player. Maybe they brought him in to see if there was any spark left.Apparently - there was not.
bird
Possibly all or many of these theories were factors, but the important thing is Coach and TD made the necessary decisions rather than just settle on something that apparently wasn't working. Clipper
This happens a lot. Pollard was signed late in training camp. He was an insurance policy for Milner. But, apparently when Pollard came into camp, the staff was not impressed. If the guy is not there, then he's not there.
