Nativebird
Harrington. You played the perfect patsy, the perfect fall guy, the guy that all of the Falcon nation could blame for the sins of totally lost management team and an owner concerned with nothing but PR. You were better than given credit, not as good as all had assigned you. Bad timing on a bad team with a horrible coach with one foot out the door. Spend your money well my friend…..you and your family definitely earned it the hard way in Atlanta.

FulCo
Harrignton was the subject of much abuse by the Falcon Nation. Although he was not the best QB, he was put in an impossible situation - a perfect storm of terrible facors including a departed QB - banned for life by the NFL - a new coach, with a new system, who gave up on the team in mid-season leaving a fan base and a franchise in ruins. Through it all, Harrington was there - and never complained and tried to deal with it.Point being, the guy has been cut - no use kicking him while he is down - especially in light of the fact that he never had a bad word to say about the falcons, the fans, or the franchise.Good luck Joey.Go Falcons! Freeze, you know I consider you a friend, so please take what I'm about to say in that vein...It's time to stop. I started a thread congratulating DJ...it got hijacked. Other people have started threads sending the players that were cut best wishes...they were hijacked. Personally, I don't understand that...if someone can't bring themselves to say goodbye/good luck to someone, then just don't post in a thread intended for that purpose. It's not like there aren't dozens of other threads available to express a different opinion. To be clear, I'm not suggesting you were the individual that disrupted the other threads - I am suggesting that it is time for the Harrington/Shockley ish to meet its timely end. boss_martian
I'm not saying Joey is a great QB, because he isn't. He did the job he was hired to do and he kept his head up the entire time. Regardless of his accomplishments, or lack thereof, on the field, he is a class guy the whole way. He got cut due to politics, pure and simple. He was cut to pacify a sensitive portion of the fan base. I give it about a week before the "START DJ" threads come back. Look for a DJ IS DA FUTURE thread about once a week. God help Matt Ryan, because DJ Nation will be extremely vocal unless their hero is made the starter. Ryan has ZERO room for error. One fumble, one interception, and the "START DJ NOW" chorus will start. After all, "DJ IS DA FUTURE!"Way to go, Mr. Blank. Way to keep the controversy alive. That's EXACTLY what this team needs and it's exactly why this team has been a laughing stock. After all the hype, I expect nothing less than a Super Bowl this year as well as nothing but sell outs at the Dome now that a true dual threat NFL hero is on the roster. Good luck, Joey. It's too bad that the nice guys finish last.

Time to get ready for the Ryan/Shockley Issue. Mark my words, Ryan throws ONE interception, and there will be 15 "START DJ NOW, DJ IS DA FUTURE" threads. Two interceptions, and they'll be picketing Flowery Branch.

The whining over DJ winning the 3rd QB spot needs to stop. Joey will be fine and he's always been a character guy. He's probably not even bitter about this situation and there's no doubt in my mind that he's NOT somewhere crying about it right now. Maybe some of the fans need to follow his lead. With that said, I wish the guy the best. He was put in an impossible situaton last season especially with our poor OL. He never complained despite the revolving door we had at QB. He'll be just fine financially and he DOES indeed have a place in this league. He won't be umemployed for long.

FWIW, his wife worked in the Heart surgery Unit at Emory. She has helped save Atlanta citizens while redneck fans beat on her husband.I want to extend a thanks to Joey and his wife for everything they did while in Atlanta.Joey, I hope you get picked up as a backup this week. I know you are a support system for helping develop some of the young QB's in the league. What you and Chris Redman have done is to help make Matt Ryan better and better prepared for the future. Thanks Joey! Remember last year when Joey played ok at the start of the season and people were calling for Leftwich and he came in against Ten and was terrible. I think the guys who are really going for DJ are either UGA fans or they want him there because of his skin color. I myself am part african american, but I also live in Canada and up here its about whether a person can get the job done. I have really never been exposed to the type of stuff I hear on this board. From what I hear from people here I'd swear nothing has ever changed in the last 100 years. To those people who hated on Joey remember he may not be the best qb but in terms of helping people in the community and being a good team player, he is excellent and I'd much rather have a guy like him on my team than say someone selfish i.e Ryan Leaf. This board has it's share of tension, but it comes from ALL directions, not just one. There are an awful lot of fans who seem borderline worried about Shock even being on the active roster, even if he's the 3rd QB in line with virtually NO chance of getting past Redman. I'm not sure that anything that happens on this board affects Dimitroff, Smith, and company when it comes to their decision making. They kept who they felt were the best players for their respective roster spots, and harrington happened to NOT be one of them. He didn't make the cut. It happens every year. Unlike this message board, the only agendas they have are making this team better and WINNING. It's OK to wish Joey well, but why do that at the expense of bashing a current Falcon or those people that support him? That's all I'm saying. oregonsfan
If nothing else, it is becoming increasingly clear who the posters are that simply aren't going to let it go, can't bring themselves to wish a cut player well (and yet can't bring themselves to simply keep quite), and will take any/all opportunities to make "backhanded" comments. If there is a God, she will do everything she can to make sure Ryan lights it up this season...if not, I have a feeling its going to be a VERY long season here on the boards. Atlguy39
I'm rooting for the guy. Detroit just ruined him. That said, he looked pretty bad in pre-season and DJ's last game, while not great, was better than he and Ryan combined. Joey will land somewhere quickly, as there are many teams that need a quality backup. Thats all he is though, a quality backup. I personally would rather see Redman start the season. I don't think Ryan gives us the best chance to win, at least not yet. Redman was impressive in the final 4 games last year, from what I remember (I tried to forget).
