Why so many updates on the PS3.

Recommended Posts

Well... it's usually once a month on average. Some months have seen no updates, some months have seen more than one.

As to the recent influx of updates, firmware v2.40 was released to add features such as in-game access of the XMB, Trophies, and other features (Like a clock and included OS memory footprint for custom soundtracks). It had an issue with some PS3's due to compatibility with administrator data, so they released firmware v2.41 to fix that.

This week, firmware v2.42 was released so that for Home beta testers, the Home icons will be shown under Network rather than Game on the XMB. It also improved PS3 and other PlayStation format playback. Probably for future titles coming.

We will see another firmware soon that will add Life with PlayStation. It is a free service, like Home will be, and like the PSN in general is.

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering why I had two in the last week. I thought maybe there was a problem I wasn't aware of.

That was like trying to read another language.
