CB help that's available

Recommended Posts

The young guys say they're ready to step up, but if they aren't... here is a list I put together of the available free agent CBs.

All info is up to date as far as I know...

Rookie Free agents:

CB Donovan Alexander (North Dakota)

Height: 5-11 Weight: 182

40 Time: 4.44 40 Low: 4.37 40 High: 4.49

NCAA Division II Star, ran track

Drafted by the CFL but decided to sign with Seahawks after NFL draft

CB Justin McKinney UFA (Cut) St. Louis Rams

College: Kansas State

Height: 5-10 Weight: 188

40 Time: 4.53 40 Low: 4.47 40 High: 4.64

Hard hitter, Big 12 experience

Named 2nd team Big 12

Vet free agents:

CB Roc Alexander UFA Houston Texans

*coming off IR season with Houston

CB Willie Andrews UFA (Cut) New England Patriots

* Cut by Pats after arrest during the offseason

CB Tony Beckham UFA Detroit Lions

* Former 4th round pick (Titans)

CB Manny Collins UFA (Cut) New York Jets

* Undrafted free agent from 07. Played in 4 games, totalled 14 tackles.

CB Andre Dyson UFA (Cut) New York Jets

* Former 2nd round pick. Long time NFL vet, still only 29 but reports of

decline have circulated.

CB Patrick Ghee UFA (Cut) Washington Redskins

* Undrafted free agent, formerly of Panthers. Appeared in 3 games last

year.

CB Kelly Herndon UFA (Cut) Tennessee Titans

* Old (31) solid vet. He's near the end of his career but might be good

depth yet.

CB Chidi Iwuoma UFA Tennessee Titans

* 7 year NFL vet. 77 games logged, 67 tackles. Depth at best.

CB Ty Law UFA (Cut) Kansas City Chiefs

* Formerly one of the best man corners in the NFL. He isn't what he used to

be, but he might still have enough left to really help us... but I doubt

he'd want to play here at this stage of his career.

CB Omare Lowe UFA Atlanta Falcons

* Special Teams guy who isn't a very good CB. We're already familiarwith

him.

CB Tim Mixon UFA (Cut) New England Patriots

* Was reguarded as a first day selection prior to injury his senior year.

Went undrafted in last years draft and finished the season on the Pats

practice squad. Possible nickle back or return help.

CB Justin Phinisee UFA (Cut) Dallas Cowboys

* Former 7th round pick from the Bucs in 06. Hasn't played in any games.

CB Chad Scott UFA New England Patriots

* Former 1st round pick, at the end of his career. Could he provide one

more year?

CB Duane Starks UFA (Cut) Oakland Raiders

* Same as Scott. Seasoned vet who may or may not have anything left in the tank.

CB Fred Thomas UFA New Orleans Saints

* Ditto again... vet at the end of his career.

CB E.J. Underwood UFA (Cut) Buffalo Bills

* Practice squad player, hasn't seen any game action.

CB Ronyell Whitaker UFA Minnesota Vikings

* Originally an undrafted free agent from Tampa in 2003. Spent a few years in NFLE before playing the last two for the Vikings (27 games, 31 tackles).

CB Kenny Wright UFA (Cut) Cleveland Browns

* Former 4th round pick by the Vikings. He's 30, so older, but may have more

left than some of the other older vets.

CB Dexter Wynn UFA Houston Texans

* Former 6th round pick by the Eagles in 04. Never a full time starter but

at only 27 years old and a vet of 45 NFL games he may provide some nice depth.

"5. Which players are on the bubble to make the team?

It's hard to make the 53-man roster of a Super Bowl championship team. After watching the Giants practice, the early candidates for the bubble include WR Sinorice Moss, Carr and one of the following secondary players: Sam Madison, Sam Knight or R.W. McQuarters. The Giants' depth in the secondary and wide receiver is impressive, which will lead to some quality players being dismissed."

Maybe we can pick up one of the Giants throwaways like a Sam Madison or Sam Knight.

Sammy Knight hasn't played any corner in years.. signing him would be like bringing in Milloy #2. That wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Madison on the other hand had one of the best seasons of his career in terms of tackles and passes defensed. The question begs to be asked though.. is that because he isn't what he used to be and teams are now throwing at him more than ever?

*shrug* Either way, Madison wouldn't be a bad addition to add vet depth at a very very young spot on our roster.

There isn't enough help out there for your stanky secondary. It will go down as one of the worst in league history.

Rome wasn't built in a day....

There is def no impact corners out there, but I think a guy like Andre Dyson might be a good option to bring in as a backup.
