ATLFalcon36's Falcons Myth Busters: Jamaal Anderson being fat, soft and out of shape

I've been paying close attention to this one on the board of numerous people saying Jamaal is fat and out of shape and need to drop pounds to get in shape...

He said in a report that he put on good weight (muscle mass) per coaches request and has been working with Chuck Smith's DE academy. He said he's extremely hard on himself and the zero sacks thing has been a huge motivator to improve.

I've also heard from various interviews and team reports that he is one of the hardest workers on defense in this offseason that there's an obvious desire to improve and get better...

I don't have links b/c they're from scattered sources but search and you will discover.

We have nothing to worry about with Jamaal, he'll be just fine and I look forward to him having a breakout 2nd year.

I hadn't heard anyone refer to him as "fat" and "out of shape"....that's new to me.

I can't seem to see the "stomach" hanging over his belt buckle....this is December of 07...

If anyone is looking for a good football read pick up the new Pro Football Prospectus from amazon or something. They have a nice little blurb at Jamaal in there. They said that though he didnt record any sacks that he was tied for first with Gaines Adams in QB hurries. They said with some technique refinements he can make a big jump in effectiveness.

No "gut" in this photo....I give up...."crankthatyank....oh crankthatbatman"

u act like there is gonna be a photo of it. if you watched the games last year, and watch the defense stand around after the huddle waiting on the offense, then u would see it.

I think that applys to the whole team

Not really.  Roddy could regress... so could Boley...

Anderson didn't really do much last except be on the field during a running play.  There were a few games where he didn't even show up on the stat sheet at all in any way.  We drafted him with the #8 pick to be a difference maker.

So if Jamaal Anderson NEVER played a game last year..... how much would have been different?

Therefore... he really has nowhere to go but up because if he has anything close to repeating what he did last year.... that will be VERY bad.

Arguing about millimeters of fat around Jamal's middle is well and good but something else caught my attention: "He said in a report that he put on good weight (muscle mass) per coaches request".

This man gets paid millions of dollars plus it's his job to stuff the run, take on blockers, create mayhem and occasionally get to the Quarterback. One would think that his offseason should be dedicated to working out, watching tape, lifting weights, refining technique, working out, eating properly and working out. He should NOT have to wait to be requested.

Well he was already at like 270-280 I can't imagine him wanting to gain weight on his own at already that size... Getting stronger doesn't mean he has to gain weight...

Crankthat:  you are stating that you saw something that nobody else saw.  You also have no proof.  Deal with the fact that you are getting called out.

And for what it's worth, he did look "soft" last year, but not fat.  Give him a few years to grow into his frame and then make judgements.

soft and fat is the same thing..if your stomach is soft and pushable, then its fat. no one is getting called out. showing pictures of him engaged with a blocker is not going to show anything. showing pictures of him this year is not going to show anything. i didnt start this thread, so obviously im not the only one who noticed.
