Homer Dude Man
doc17mo (6/21/2008)Do you think our defense is better or worse with the changes made so far?Am I the only one that thinks Vick is still our best shot at creating a winning team? I agree he will be cut but will our team be better or worse? I would have kept DeAngelo, Jimmy and Alge. Have we made things better or worse?Doc, with the failures that we have had to endure in recent seasons, I for one welcome change. Change is what this team needed. Alge was one of my favorites, but his knees weren t getting any younger. I hated to see him go, but the TEs we have now will fit our scheme better than Alge would have. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> As for the rest, I did not lose any sleep over their departure. We have a clean slate to work with now. I will trust the front office and coaching staff until they prove otherwise. Change is good! We have a plan! consistentfalcon
No I hate loosing and I want nothing but the best for the falcons. I know how they have been disappointing for a number of years, but I still hope for improvement and the best for my team. Just because they haven't been the best I don't go team hopping either. As for you I'm sure they have let you down a lot ,but you still should hope for the to always be better the next year. If not then why choose to root for a team when you have no hope for improvement, what fun is in that. Plus you might just become a negative person all the time if you are always so down and negative about you team.i pull for the foulcons every year, they just pull harder the other way. as i said before, 4 years ago they were close and just like a page out of the original owner, to the cellar we go, when they decide to really fix it i'll be here with open arms until then i expect to keep getting what they are giving, and thats not a whole lot to be proud of although it wont ruin my life or make me as some of you all say negative in my personal life. somehow i do feel that my posts affect others on this board though. nothing personal , just an opinion
formul8or
I think our defense last year was better than average and the first few games they were tough. But when the offense only stays on the field 5 minutes a game then the defense gets beat up and loses confidence.I think we had a better one last year with Grady, Hall, and Crocker(he did well last year). I am excited about Lofton though.

We had a starting check down QB that would throw short passes more times than not on 3rd and long. TD drafted a QB that albeit in college was successful on converting on 3rd down. We have a running back that can get that yard when we need it. Yeah, we can bring up names like Grady, Crocker and Hall and say that we had some talent, but do they fit the defensive scheme that we will run this year? We will make our D better by keeping them off the field more this year.

Grady definetly fit the scheme but thats water under the bridge. I am unsure o how our team will be. Where will the leadership come from? Who knows... Matt may actually work out great. If we traded away some stars and got a better team then I'm all for it but I'm leary.consistentfalcon, please give the Falcons and the true Falcon fans enough respect to get the name right. You my think its cute but its really insulting and imature. We will make our D better by keeping them off the field more this year.
BruceReville
Defense believe it or not was our biggest asset last season - it's surprising the games weren't even bigger point differences because our offense would either give up the ball and give the other team a short field or couldn't mount a drive over 3 minutes and therefore keeping the defense on the field for most of the game and they just gave out of gas by the end of the game.Secondary is still suspect but up front looks to be our defense's strong point. I agree he will be cut but will our team be better or worse? I would have kept DeAngelo, Jimmy and Alge. Have we made things better or worse?Nah man, better off without Jimmy. Got the talent of a superstar, yet he has the yearning and effort of a garbage collector. Pick up a few cans here, but stuff the rest, too many. With Jimmy it was play good when he was in college. Then he made it to the NFL and flopped. With the DeAngelo Hall one, it was probably a good move, it's helped out the linebacking corps, cos we got Lofton with that pick I think. (Or was it the one we traded to move up with the Skins?) Anyway, we got Lofton so providing he learns the playbook in time, we got a above average linebacking corps with 2 of the best in Brook and Boley, and a young kid with a tonne of potetial with Curtis. We got a new safety, DeCoud (Daycoo? DAYCOO?) who will start next year I reckon. Chris Houston played well last year minus a few didn't-look-at-the-ball plays and got beaten. And with D-Hall gone, Chevis Jackson comes in (eventually). I probably would have kept Alge too, sure he put on a bit of weight... But I'm pretty sure most people would pick Alge over Martrez Milner or... :ermm: Keith Zinger... For now anyway. Ric Roc
I believe we're better everywhere just based off the coaching staff alone... J. Mike said it in his mailbag and I agree whole-heartedly--the expert and veteran coaching staff is like having an extra player on the field...Guys can develop and be placed in schemes that accentuate their positives and cover their negatives. The competition alone will increase (hopefully) the level of play of everyone. No job--save for J. Abraham at LDE, T. McClure at C, and M. Boley at SLB appears to be safe.

Have we made things better or worse?its easy to say that the defense is below average, but not so easy to say whether its better or worse than last year's defense because weve never seen them play, with new schemes, new players, and new coaches, there are alot of variables.easy to say that we're short on talent. we dont have alot of talent in CBs, DTs, and safties. but hopefully the defensive scheme that were going to run wont require alot of individual talent.if i had to guess, ill say it'll be worse than last year's. if our D line suffers injuries, that will be costly
GrooRules
At least we can hope to be better this year. We are different...a lot different from last year and aligned to build from here. It may not be much better this year but it could be way better as early as next year.
ATL Doc
Yea Duke I was gone for a minute but with my job tht can be anytime. I am thinking the Jaguars had a monster defense and we have the guy responsible for it, as well as the head scout for the Patriots... I hold judgement until we get some games under our belt. (Now you know until Vick gets off the roster I am hoping he returns though) That just my personal thought and I will not change it so save the drama guys cause its falling on deaf ears.
