We still have the best higher education in the world.

For the public education system, yeah, it's got its problems.

Exactly my point.

Our best higher education schools are private. Our worst higher education schools are "state schools".

When you take away the free market and competition from an industry the end result is a poorly managed bureaucracy with poor results. See: our public education, etc...

That's comically poor reasoning. Because something is ideal in the free market does not mean that it is a failure when publically funded. To me, having an ideal is the goal of the free makret, and having a practical solution is the goal of public funding.

The point of public funds for education is not to provide the highest level possible in education, it is to provide an affordable education. The luxury (Yale, Hardvard, etc.) is set by the free market, as it should be, and the practical solution (UGA, UCLA, Georgia Tech) is paid for in part by public funds.

There are countless state schools (too many to list) that provide incredible educations at affordable prices. Youre suggesiton would eliminate the possibility of higher education for people unable to afford Harvard, Yale and the other elite schools. It's an absurd suggestion, and one that is not only impractical in the short term, but could have devastating implications for our nation after even a few short years.

I call bullsh*t.

The results speak for themselves. The top (private) schools are in competition with each other to provide the best education. This competition raises the bar. With our public education system, there is no competition and our system sucks.

Price is part of the competition too...

More competition = lower prices and higher quality. You also have to factor in that whole supply and demand thing too...

Our public educaiton system does NOT suck.

As I said, the fact that the best shcools exist in a free market environment does not mean that schools that exist in the public realm are not good schools. You are making a claim that does not logically follow in the least. What's worse, the results of your flawed claim would be, over time, hundreds of millions of Americans with no college education..at the cost of a few dollars.

Why do you not yelp as loudly about the American taxpayer money being spent in Iraq? where is that thread? Where are those Youtube and Fox links? Because it's not the money that you're concerned about. It's the dogma. And that's what's wrong with this country.

Where did you go to college, and did you pay full price every year?

Yes, that's why Harvard and Yale are so affordable and their prices are increasing so slowly.

Supply and demand remember? What's the demand to get into Harvard or Yale?

Bump till Obama is DEFEATED

We Don't Trust the Government to Fix Our Problems (They typically screw it up worse)

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

- Ronald Reagan

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened."

Norman Thomas, American socialist

"One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project, most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can t afford it."

- Ronald Reagan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRdLpem-AAs

Obama wants more taxes, more government regulation, redistribution of wealth, and is against a free market economy.

He MUST be defeated in November!

God Bless the USA!

American%20Flag.jpg

Wow, you are the most un-patriotic member on these boards. Obama would make a great president for this country. He has all the qualities anyone could hope for in a president but you would rather he be denied for unfounded, rediculous reasons. People voted Bush thinking he would reduce taxes but he only put this country in more debt. Bush also has a redistribution of wealth policy. take from the poor and give more and more and more to the rich. Do you not realize that being in a country where 95% of the people are dirt poor, 4% of the people are getting by, and 1% of the people are filty rich is a recipe for disaster. I agree every able body needs to work and make their own way, but the greed of the fility rich is just intolerable.

I really don't know your views well enough to say that you had any credibility with me before, but if you had, this idiocy would have caused you lose any shred. What is truly shameful is I think you're actually serious with this drivel, hopefully not, but spouting such nonsense does not help the case that Obama supporters aren't mindless sheep bahhing and fainting at catch phrases....research the economic status of your countrymen and then the same of the real poor of the world before vomiting crap such as this "out loud".

There's always room for a premium service, but it behooves us as a society to provide a basic level of education for all citizens. At one time the base level of education necessary to be a functioning member of society was grade school. Then it moved up to a HS education. I'd argue that in today's and tomorrow's society, a college education is now the base level needed to meet the challenges coming.

gospel truth

...and why not international health car rankings?

http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

I bet all of the top 10 have national health care...

These rankings were done by the World Health Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations. Can you say, AGENDA?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what of the United States placing 37th behind Slovenia in the WHO rankings? WHO rankings result from an index of five health-related statistics: health level, health distribution, responsiveness, responsiveness distribution and financial fairness. Only health level and responsiveness, Whitman writes, are justifiable measures of a health system. The remaining rankings, he argues, fail to take into account differences in health outcomes not explained by spending or literacy, and instead attribute them to health care performance, creating a fertile ground for demagoguery and selective citation.

"The WHO health care ranking system does not escape ideology," concludes Whitman. "On the contrary, it advances ideological assumptions under the guise of objectivity. Those interested in objective measures of health system performance should look elsewhere."
