"Ultimately, I think that wins are the most significant stat. I think quarterbacks are measured by what they do in the fourth quarter and what they do with the game on the line."

Now if we didn't know any better and we saw this outside the context of the draft, we'd probably attribute it easily to some QBs in NFL who were known for their ability to  come back and win in the clutch, like an Elway, Montana, or Favre.

Of course, it's no shock that Matt Ryan said this, since he's the center of the universe on here right now. I just wonder how statements like that affect your belief in him as a potential star in this league. I can't honestly say that it doesn't sway my feelings on drafting him. It actually makes me worry that we'll be making a huge mistake by passing on him...

I'm glad I'm not the one making the decisions on Saturday. I'd be hospitalized with ulcers by the time our pick came up...

You want to know?  I have seen recent videos of Mr. Ryan and Mr. Harrington in recent months and I am more impressed with the words of Joey than the esteemed qb from Boston College.

I dunno, guys. During the season last year, I was a big Ryan fan. The best player, imo, is McFadden, but we manage to blow that pick by signing Turner's deal. Since the season ended, I've pretty much been for Dorsey because players like him are hard to find. Still, I can't help but think perhaps Ryan is the best choice for this team right now.

The average fans (not us drones who waste all our time on here, lol), are no doubt looking for something big to make them interested again. The skeptics are going to want to see that we're obviously going in a new direction. Making Ryan the new face of this team would go a long way toward reigniting the fan base. We shouldn't forget that paying fans are the reason people buy these teams...

Wins bring in fans more than anything, having the empty hype based around a player only leads to short term ticket sales. I would rather us draft smart and build a real team that is consistantly competitive. Logic like, "they need a face of the franchise", is what kills a team.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. I've seen plenty of teams that tried to build from a foundation, who blew that just as royally as teams who went for the big name. I don't think either way is a given by any stretch. One thing is for sure. Teams who win, as you say, nearly always have great QB play. The Cowboys didn't pass on Aikman to take Mandarich as a for-instance. They stunk all over as a team. They knew they did. They also recognized that they weren't going anywhere without a new face on their franchise behind center. Aikman went 1-15 his first year, if memory serves.

Obviously not everyone is an Aikman, but then, neither was Aikman at the time. He was just the top rated QB of that class, like Matt Ryan is now. No better or no worse a prospect.

I do know one thing. We can pass on Dorsey, McFadden, or any of the other top prospects and it'll barely be noticed down the road if any or all become great. If we pass on Ryan, and he reaches his potential stardom, considering where we've been the last 12 months? This team could be damaged beyond repair, both on and off the field...

thanat0s,   I am in total agreement with you.   I have been a firm Dorsey/Ellis/Jake supporter since the middle of this past season.

If the FO believes in Matt Ryan, then drafting him is the smartest and wisest thing to do.

Agreed, bg. As I said, I'm glad I'm not the one having to make that call Saturday, lol...
