muskokas finest ©
He's done very little to distance himself from Hennne/Brohm/Flacco, yet is being touted as a high first rounder, while the others come in late 1st/early 2nd
twyntefour
Matt Ryan has less starts than qbs like chad henne and brian brohm, Matt Ryan was only able to produce slightly above average numbers ONE year of his 4 at boston college. other qb's like henne and brohm have overcome obsticles and put up great numbers through all 4 years and have been much more consistent. brohm proved to be knowledgeable and flexible learning a new system in his senior year and still having a great year. Matt Ryan is just too inconsistent and made way too many bad decisions with the football to be considered at top 3 pick. Matt Ryan is a product of the media overhyping a player. Jim Caldwell
I think he is good... and if we get him I won't be mad......BUT if it was me - I'd pick o/line -d/line 1st and pick QB with 2nd or 3rd round pick. We MUST build a new line before putting a new QB behind center or he will be ruined like Joey Harrington.
totalbirdbrain
1) In the games that I've watched, I cannot answer the question whyis he better than Brian Brohm. With Brohm, you have a quicker quarterbackwith a better arm, less turnovers, and more polished. I guess Ryan is a aboutan inch or so taller.2) We have a huge need at left tackle and once you get beyond Jake Long,Ryan Clady, and Chris Williams, I don't see much proven talent protectingour quarterback. 3) Glenn Dorsey immediately improves our defensive line, and with DeAngeloHall missing, we need more pressure on the opposition's quarterback. silentbob1272
I don't hate Ryan, but J. Long and Dorsey are far more valuable. A QB at number 3 overall would cost a fortune and Ryan in no way has warranted that type money....the ESPN man crush aside. Brohm or Flacco may be a step down from Ryan, but it is a very small step where as the quality DT we can get in the second is a giant running leap down from Dorsey. If neither J. Long or Dorsey are there at 3, try to trade down and take Ellis or Clady, if this is not possible, I would not be upset with taking Ryan at that point, but it would be my distant 6th or 7th preference. direwolf
I don't dislike Ryan. I just think, as others have said, that he's not significantly better (if at all) than Brohm and so either Ryan is way overrated or Brohm is way underrated. They've got similar numbers as far as TD/INT ratio. Ryan has more passing yards, but threw the ball 100 times more than Brohm did. Brohm has higher completion percentage and yards per attempt (Ryan's yards/attempt is not very good). Both are intelligent players who are well-liked by their teammates (read interviews with Brohm's 'mates and coaches before saying he's not a leader; they all loved him and followed him, even though he's not a rah-rah guy).I think we can do much better with our first pick. If we take Ryan, obviously I'll support him as the QB of my team, but I'd hate to miss out on a superstar player. Then again, we don't know what the future holds for them, so I'll just hope for the best regardless of whom we take.Direwolf
Keas
i just don't agree with people who say he is the best quarterback in this years draft in my opinion he is the second or third best guy in the draft with brohm being number and henne and ryan can fight for the number two spot but i still like henne just a little bit more than ryan

Patch
I think Ryan and Brohm are worthly of first round picks. But I don't think either of them have proven to be a top 10 pick.
apl2g
ryan isn't a horrible qb. he just isn't worth a #3 pick when we need to start in the trenches. it doesn't matter who you have behind center he can't throw from his back, and he can't have to come back from 20 points every game. games are won and lost in the trenches. we dont' need him at #3 when there are other qb's in the draft who are just as good as he is that will be there in the second and maybe even third rounds

I don't have anything against Ryan or any of the other 1st round QB prospects, I just would rather that we not pick any of them at #3.

Jax
I want Matt Ryan PERIOD. He is the best QB in this draft. He is better than the QBs coming out next year. Our QB situation is the worst position on the team. Its not even close. Did you guys watch the same Falcons games I did last year??? Our QB play was putrid. Only at end of season when we were 2-12, did it even start to resemble 2nd stringer quality.Yes Dorsey would be good, yes Chris Long would be good, but we have some players at those positions. We have nothing at QB. Ryan is the best QB to come out since 2004 (Eli, Rothlesberger, Phillip Rivers draft) and you guys don't want him. This is driving me crazy.Yeah lets get more good players at same positions we are okay in. Sounds like same theory Hawks worked by when selecting Marvin Williams over Chris Paul. Nooooo we don't need a point guard, lets draft another forward that we already have 3 of.Noooooooooo we dont need a Quarterback in NFL, lets draft another Dlineman (like last year). Jax
Just take it easy, dude. Breath in and out!Sorry but this is honestly, seriously ticking me off.We finally have the good fortune to select a quality QB (just like Hawks with PG few years ago) and people are talking about DTs.We had a disaster with Vick case last year, we just witnessed one of the worst displays of quarterbacking in recent NFL history out of Harrington and Redman, and fortune has it that a quality franchise QB is availabe in the draft. But noooo our fans want a DT that is injury prone, a LT (Jake Long) who everybody says may have to be switched to RT.This is beyond frustrating.Watch as Ryan goes on to be great for 10 years for some other team, and everybody here switches and says "Told ya we shoulda picked him." Jax
Do we get a Dorsey knee brace and a team of 5 nutritionists with his pick?Listen if everything goes right in Dorsey's career his potential ceiling is a Warren Sapp clone. Thats all said and good, but is not good enough to by pass a potential franchise QB.I see Dorsey ending up being more like Vince Wilfork (solid) than Warren Sapp...and thats DEFINATELY not worth passing on a solid QB.
