iDash
Story Published: Jan 3, 2008 at 10:45 PM EDT Only when you fast forward this saga to this past September 8th in Athens that you get the full of impact of that decision. It was the Brinkley twins who carried the Carolina defense against Georgia that day as the twins exacted a bit of revenge for the Dawgs decision not to recruit both brothers. In the end it was Jaspers game ending interception that sealed the Dawgs fate and earned him a well deserved game ball in Athens. As it all played itself out... it was that loss in September to South Carolina by the closest of margins, 16-12, that really may have cost the Dawgs a shot at the national championship. And now in January of 2008 as Georgia has good reason to believe they will climb as high as number 2 in the final polls... if not for Thomson's Brinkley twins... we'll now always wonder if the Dawgs would have been playing for the national championship. SacFalcFan
wow so it was 22 on 2 right.. I didn't know that.. I wonder where the other players were.. You drop 3 touchdown passes and over throw 2 wide open guys for touchdowns that was what lost the game.. the brinkley twins had zero to do with that. I dont recall the Brinkley twins doing much of anything in that game. I may have to pull out the game tape of that one. Stafford and the WRs lost that game. LawDawg
South Carolina, as abysmal as their football heritage may be, always plays UGA very tough.
gamecocknfire
LawDawg (4/21/2008)South Carolina, as abysmal as their football heritage may be, always plays UGA very tough. That was because UGA is at the beginning of the season. We use to not have depth to play well later on into the season. We would be depleted by injuries and such. But now we have some depth to compete throughout the season. iDash
As the story goes... some 4 years ago Mark Richt and the Bulldogs were interested in Thomson's Jasper Brinkley at linebacker... but not his twin brother Casper. Jasper told the Dawgs that this was a package deal... no Casper, no Jasper. Over in Columbia, Steve Spurrier welcomed the twins with open arms... and that's how the Brinkley twins found their way to South Carolina. Now, the rest of the story... MoreSorry, i didnt see half of the story got CUT! Only when you fast forward this saga to this past September 8th in Athens that you get the full of impact of that decision.
