Rick Gosselin's NFL mock draft (4/18)

11:46 AM CDT on Friday, April 18, 2008

Bill Parcells won his first Super Bowl ring with a relentless pass rush.

The linebacker-driven 3-4 scheme of his New York Giants finished second in the NFL in sacks in 1986 with 59. Lawrence Taylor led the league with 20½ sacks on the way to being named the NFL's Most Valuable Player.

Now that Parcells is running the show with the Miami Dolphins, he wants to have the first overall selection in the 2008 NFL draft under contract before he makes the selection April 26.

If Michigan's Jake Long doesn't want the honor of becoming the first offensive lineman selected first overall in 11 years, look for Parcells to shift his attention quickly to a defensive player.

Ohio State's Vernon Gholston is the best pass rusher in this draft and those 1986 Giants taught Parcells the value of a pass rush on Sunday afternoons in the fall.

So give Gholston to the Dolphins in the second mock draft offering from The Dallas Morning News. The first one last weekend was based on best available player. This one places a greater emphasis on team need.

I can see why he is known for his rankings and not Mocks here are you some (NO WAYS) from me on this Mock..........

1. NO way will Miami take Gholston , if they went DE it would be Chis Long for sure .

2. No way will Sed Ellis fall to 10 , Somone would trade up Before that happens.

3. No way will Jamall Charles go in the First round Much less that high.

Now three things I see that he agrees with me on that a lot do not see. Here are some (YES WAYS) ................

1. I'm glad sombody sees how good Jonathan Stewart is , and has him ranked where he should be , same to be said for Chris Johnson even thou I don't think Chris goes that high I do think he will go higher than most Mocks have him which is around the bottom of the  Round two.

If the FO wants Brohm, a Dallas trade would be to their advantage, personally, this draft makes Henne/Flacco/JJohnson aqvailable to us in the 2nd easily so why waste the 3rd pick and lose out on Dorsey?

He IS known for his Mocks as he is #1 in accuracy.  His final is due out around Thursday -Friday and it is close to dead nuts every year.  (Followed Goose for many years)

Absolutely no chance 49ers take Brian Brohm in the first. I think Alex Smith is a bust, but the 49ers obviously do not agree with me since they extended his contract. If anyone takes Alex Smith's job it will be Shaun Hill, and they won't have to waste a first round pick for that to happen.

No way the Steelers take an ILB in the first round when they need an olineman so badly. Despite the fact they made the playoffs, they gave up 47 sacks last year. The fact that they even made the playoffs is a testament to a great defense (except for the Patriots game).

No I'll admit, the Bucs need to find depth behind Cadillac Williams, so Goslein does have a point. However, with Warrick Dunn, Earnest Graham, and Michael Bennett, they don't need it that bad. Jamaal Charles is not a first round pick by anyone in my opinion, especially not the Bucs at 20.

As a Steeler fan, the defense wasn't all that great either last season. At least by Steeler standards. Ben carried that team last year, BAR NONE! And anyone who says he isn't a franchise QB and not worth the 100 MIL is delusional. If it wasn't for him last year, the Steelers wouldn't of made the playoffs much less win the division.the 47 sacks was a franchise record, yet Ben still managed to throw for 3,400 yds and 32 TD's. Imagine what he would of done if the sack total was half-that.

Goose is pretty accurate like TBF said, but no way do the 9'ers take a QB. I do agree w/you there.

IMO Alex Smith gets another 1-2 years now that Martz is there to work his QB magic. If there is anyone who can make Smith play up to his #1 overall potential it is Martz.

I wouldnt be suprised if SMith threw for 3500-4000 yards this year if SF can nab a top WR like Devin Thomas or Limas Sweed in round one.

being a fan of the atlanta falcons, i would like to say that brian brohm is not good. he couldn't pick up a college scheme in 1 offseason. that means, he'll never pick up an nfl scheme. he's jeff george dumb. same with flacco, flacco had to drop down to d2 just to compete, mentally.

i believe you're the one that is jeff george dumb. everybody(besides you) knows that brohm is by far the most analytical qb of this draft and most ready to be handed an nfl playbook and actually understand it. if you're talking about kragthorpe coming in at ul, well look at brohm's numbers last year dumb***. if this happens 37 and 103 for 27 or 28 to get brohm.

If that's the case then how come he had his best season(senior year) last year in a new system w/ a new coach. He had 30TD's/12INT's and a 65.3 % rate last year w/a new system and coach as opposed to 16TD's/5INT's and a 64% rate his Junior year.

GTFO you clown!
