Tuggle'2 Posted April 17, 2008 Share Posted April 17, 2008 Ok so im in miami and this happened to day at the jeff ireland press conference.Basically the media asks him what are you going to do with the 1st pick?He says well obviously i want a guy with alot of upside and to be really talented, I mean he is going to be the first pick in the draft and we want this guy to be the "pillar of our defense for the next ten years"So he keeps talking for a minute about econonmics, and then all the media starts to laugh. He says whats so funny?They said you said pillar of our defense, while laughing!He goes silent for a min then says well defense,offense, team i mean! They said what another smokescreen, he says well you can decide on your own.I know what it looks like, but if you hear over and over again, he messed up big time. The radio people are killing him down here right now for it, and can only imagine what parcells is ding to him. Either way this is still great for us cause in the miami hearld this morning they talked about the coach of st louis scott linehann says he loves jake and they thinnk if he is there they def take jake. But they have been trying to drive down the price of the first pick, basically saying this is the contract who wants to be number 1. he just basically killed that. You have the first pick, no one can take your guy before you!smoke screen is for the players and their agents, not other teams.Parcells could be trying to convince Chris Long's agent (or Gholston's agent) that they are ready to sign Jake Long to a below-market contract, in order to get Chris Long to agree to a below-market contract. But if this is true and Ireland inadvertently let that comment slip, then that tells Chris Long's agent that Parcells is full of it and really does want Chris Long, so then Chris Long doesn't have to sign a below-market contract after all. Also tells Jake Long that Parcells was just using him for leverage against Chris Long and that he didn't really want Jake Long to begin with. kenk Posted April 17, 2008 Share Posted April 17, 2008 Smoke screen time...I dont think Jake Long will make a great Left OT. Long is not quick enough for speed rushers... I think he would be good at Right OT or a great R Guard..IF I am TD I would trade down and draft QB Braum or Flacco and get another 2nd round pick...
