Unconventional wisdom at #3, is it possible?

First of all let me start by stating that from day 1 my choice has been Jake Long 1A and Glenn Dorsey 1B.  I'd be thrilled with either prospect.  Now, we've all been throwing around ideas if J Long goes 1 and Dorsey goes 2, who do we go with?

So here is the scenario:

1. Miami: Jake Long

2. St. Louis: Glenn Dorsey

3. Atlanta: (can not find a way to trade out of the pick)

Now ideally, considering no trading, I'd want Sedrick Ellis, b/c imo and many others, he is Glenn Dorsey v 2.0.  But what if we go another route.  What if we go Jake Long v 2.0 and take Ryan Clady at 3.  Here is my argument b/4 you flame me.  Yes, I know it's reaching, but it's a very strong possibility he goes #5 to KC, so is it really that big of a reach?  Also, many have him projected as the top LT, even better than Jake Long.

So my question is this, considering J Long and Dorsey are gone and no trades are available, could you live with Clady as the #3 pick?

OK...Flame on!!

I don't think it would be as "sexy" a pick as Dorsey, but I wouldn't be upset. Clady has shown the most promise/ability to be an NFL left tackle. When I so that Miami was negotiating with Long, I was a little shocked to be honest. I wonder what you do with a player like Chrius Long sitting there though...I think to have C.Long and Dorsey sitting there-it would be a tough decision. Maybe Al Davis would get all sentimental with Howie's kid and swap places with us-lol Take a few more of their draft picks...and then still be able to get Dorsey-and yes, I am kidding...least about swapping with the Raiders.

Remember your Mama telling you "If all your friends jumped off the cliff, would you?"

If KC wants to pay a 5th overall for Clady, let 'em. That doesn't make him worth a 5th

overall, much less a 3rd.

Well, considering you are drafting on potential, and REALLY have NO IDEA how ANY player will pan out I don't think you can really say who is worth what in the early picks...remember Cincy a few years ago getting murdered for "reaching" only to have gotten Levi Jones-a VERY good LT that had helped solidify their O-line issues. I REALLY DON'T see us drafting Clady-and think their is some depth in the position this year, but I would not be upset if we reached for someone our professional scouts think could be a franchise LT for years to come.

These are all good arguments, and like I said, I'd personally rather have Ellis, maybe Chris Long b/c imo he's the BPA.  I definitely don't want McFadden at #3.  But push come to shove, I could live with coming away with the possibly the best LT with the first pick.

there is no freakin way those 2 get drafted 1 and 2 like that..st louis plays a 3-4 defense and dorsey nor the rams will not benefit from drafting him..they will take chris long..

st. Louis does NOT play a 3-4 defense.........and, it is very likely that the Rams will take Glen Dorsey......just go look at St. Louis newspaper.......(St. Louis Dispatch)

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/rams

Jim Thomas-Rams beatwriter chat:

http://www.stltoday.com/discussions/sports...LD041108300/all

exerpt from linked chat:

Dwayne: Hey Jim

Would you be surprised to see the rams draft

Dorsey over a (HEALTHY) C.Long and are you leaning

towards WR or CB in round 2.

Jim Thomas: I would not be surprised to see the Rams take Dorsey. I think in the end, Dorsey will have a higher grade than Chris Long on the Rams' board. But the X-factor is Dorsey's health. The Rams keep saying or intimating that they're not concerned with Dorsey's stress fracture. But who knows for sure?

Not a bad idea.  Trading down may not be an option; it just depends on if any other team thinks that highly of Ryan.  The teams drafting us who could use a QB include....

Kansas City

Carolina (possibly)

Baltimore

Buffalo

Detroit

Minnesota

I really wouldn't want to trade down any further than Baltimore's #8 spot unless some team were willing to give us multiple picks in rounds 1 and 2.  I don't see that happening.

Clady is regarded by many as the 2nd best OT in this draft, and if we can't find a suitable trade partner, I don't think anyone would fault us for taking Clady.

The concept is solid, just not the names. The guys you see on the rise are Chris Williams and Brandon Albert. Ryan Clady's name is now showing up a lot in the 12th position to Denver. That is quite a drop on a draft value chart -500 to 1000 points or 1-2 high second rounders. I consider that a very expensive reach

As long as the lines get addressed with quality players that can step in and start, or are not far off, I am fine with this logic.  I'd rather trade down though.  For me, Brohm in the last half of the 1st would be like a blessing in disguise.  I'd prolly pee a little if the Falcons pulled that off.
