If I hear one more person in the media reference Georgia's schedule...

Recommended Posts

Erin Andrews was on 680 this afternoon and basically said that she's counting out Georgia b/c of their schedule. Excuse me, Erin, I like you and you're cute(very) and all, but I seem to remember that your alma mater, Florida, had just as tough a schedule in '06 as we do this upcoming season. And the Gators maneuvered that just fine, well enough to win it all and have only 1 loss. So who's to say that we can't do the same. The Dawgs have the quality depth and IMO, the attitude neccessary to take on this challenge. AS well as the fact that we're loaded! I do believe we lose 1 game to one of the Alabama schools but keep in mind that no team, and this includes all of our SEC rivals, have an off week before they play us. This IMO is huge. As it'll give no team an advantage over us.

THe schedule is as you make it. If you take it one game, one play at a time like CMR is preaching, then I think we'll be just fine.

Erin also thinks we'll lose to Arizona State.

Let them talk my friend.  Let them talk.  This UGA team is soo freaking stacked talentwise and has the depth to withstand this type of schedule.  It won't be easy, but the Dawgs have a guy leading them who has been here before and hopefully they are able to take it 1 game at a time.  As what Fred M said "we are talking this season one game at a time.  We are looking at it one drill at a time, one play at a time, and at the end of the year we will see where we are at."

It's a perfectly logical and reasonable statement to make if you'd just remove your red and black glasses. Not only is our overall schedule easier, but our SEC schedule is easier since (And thank God) we don't have to play Auburn this year.

But I definitely think Georgia has the talent to overcome it, just like we did in 06, that is if Matthew Stafford turns out to be the christ child that everyone makes him out to be.

Honestly, I don't think the 2008 UGA football team is nearly as stacked as the 2006 Gators were...That was basically an NFL roster.

really?  please do your best breakdown of their two deep squad and how much better they are than uga?  I would love to see your breakdown and when you tell the future about how good our guys will end up being please use your crystal ball to give us some lotto tickets.. thanks.. :hehe::hehe:

Well, off the top of my head, their DL was so far superior to UGA it's just absurd (and UGA has a good DL)...They had Jarvis Moss and Derrick Harvey coming off the edges...That is two 1st round NFL draft picks at the 4th most important position on the field (behind QB, RB, LT)...Then Joe Cohen and Ray McDonald were also 3rd and 4th round draft picks at DT...That is two first rounders and a 3rd and 4th on the DL...Ridiculous.

Reggie Nelson was easily better than any player in Georgia's secondary...Ryan Smith and Asher Allen are probably about even at CB...Brandon Siler was a beast at MLB, I'd say slightly better than Ellerbe.

Chris Leak was a FAR better QB than Matthew Stafford...I'd call Percy Harvin and Knowshon Moreno a push in terms of their best playmaker on offense, but for the sake of argument, let's give it to Knowshon...However Florida also had much better WR's...TE is easily Florida also. I don't remember much about Florida's OL, but I do remember they were solid...That is probably a push.

Florida of 06 comes out on top in a lot of categories.

That Florida team is probably the most talented team in the past 10 years in the SEC.

Like I said, Urban Meyer inherited an NFL Roster.

It's hard to be mad at her when we lost to South Carolina and Tennesse last year. I'd imagine we have one of the toughest schedules anyone has ever played looking at it right now. Tougher than Florida's in '06. I do think we have a better team than that Florida team, though.

I honestly think both UGA and UF could/should/will be undefeated when we play this season.

#1 vs #2 ????

That'd be freaking awesome !!!!!

That's my hope..  i want a #1 vs #2 matchup and I don't care who is 1 or 2, i just want a national matchup that EVERYONE is watching..  and I want to continue to see the pundits picked uf and hype of the gators.  The more they do it the more I like it.  I love it that almost every espn pundit from holtz to may to kirk picks uf.  I hope everyone does.  I want uf to be ranked #1 in EVERY preseason poll.  I want to see gator fans throughout the world act just like they do on gatorbait and say uga has no chance and uga has no talent and uga isn't a top 25 team.  I want to see it because we saw it last year in the preseason.  after the ut butt kicking all ut fans said uga had no chance to beat uf and all uf fans were touting their sec championship after that game all over this board and all over the internet.  that's what I want to see.

This upcoming year the sec is stacked and even the lower tier teams are improving not just in talent, but in coaching.  Whoever wins the SEC will be worthy of a title shot whoever it is.

Thus my point you are trying to compare a team that hasn't even finish up this season and you have zero idea and no basis for above.  last I checked these guys are in college and most are sophomores or juniors thus you have zero idea how good they are or will be.  IMO you are dead wrong in a number of areas (such as defensive tackle), but as I said if you could tell the future then you could actually come up with a true matchup, but talent-wise this uga team is one of the best i have seen in some time.

Agreed..  i can't blame anyone for not picking uga.  I hope they all pick florida because that means nothing as to what will happen on the field.  This uga team is one of the most talented i have seen in the past decade.  You have nfl prospects all over this defense.  From reshad jones, asher allen, ellerbe, curran, kade weston, geno atkins, jeff owens, etc..  I can't wait to see them in action.

They're all opinions at this point. Of course nothing is cut and dry...Using that line of judgment, we can't say ANYTHING about ANY SEC team...We can at least project with some level of accuracy...But after listing off everything that Florida team had, I see no possible way that UGA's 08 team will compete with that.

I want to make it clear that my analysis was NOT a knock against this UGA team...That Florida team was just unreal in terms of talent.

Honestly, I am trying to think of a more talented team in recent SEC history, and I really can't...Maybe 1998 Tennessee or 1992 Alabama...But That Florida team was probably better than either.

Agreed they are all opinions, but to compare the two teams now is an uninformed opinion.  You are bringing up good stats on when guys were drafted, etc which is nice and all ,but until you see where this team ends up and the guys end up and how they play this year you can't really make an informed opinion IMO.  I know you aren't knocking the dawgs man, that is my only point.
