Five-yard facemask penalty eliminated by owners

NFL | Five-yard face mask penalty eliminated

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the five-yard face mask penalty was eliminated Wednesday, April 2. Now, only the serious face mask will be called and will be assessed as a 15-yard penalty. The major foul will involve twisting or grabbing the face mask.

Not really.  All those B/S face mask calls for accidental touching will be eliminated.  Other than that it will be the same amount of 15 yarders that there was last year.

Oh it will probably get rid of the calls where a player grazes the facemask with his hand.

What about those times where it's border-line and the offical has a choice between a 5 yard and 15 yard call.  In those instances now the official has only one choice.

You know how that's going to play out.  If it's the Falcons on the borderline, it'll be 15 yards, if it's the Patriots, it's incidental contact.  Just like a lot of judgemental pass interference non-calls that seem to go against us whether we're on defense or offense.

You know how that's going to play out. If it's the Falcons on the borderline, it'll be 15 yards, if it's the Patriots, it's incidental contact. Just like a lot of judgemental pass interference non-calls that seem to go against us whether we're on defense or offense.

Yep, its the refs job to screw the falcons over.
