The NFL has stripped the 49ers of their 2008 fifth-round pick after finding the club guilty of tampering with Bears LB Lance Briggs last October.

The Bears and Niners will also switch picks in the third round, giving Chicago the No. 39 selection. San Francisco moves back to No. 44. This is a pretty significant blow to the 49ers' draft and a nice lift for the Bears. Like he has with off-field conduct, it appears commissioner Roger Goodell will crack down on tampering going forward.

mybad rotoworld had that

ESPN is reporting that the NFL has ruled that the San Francisco 49'ers tampered with Bears' LB Lance Briggs and must relinquish their fifth round pick (#135) and trade places with the Bears in the third round of the Draft....the Bears now own the 71st overall pick, while the Niners move back to the Bears pick #74 overall.

This just further shows how much oof a d1ckhead goodell is!  As far as I can tell briggs is still in chicago?! so whats the harm,  Now they have adversly effected every team that has a similiar needs in the second round between 39 - 44!? if I was picking 40th I'd be upset. how is that fair?

This really blows for the Niners. They already have no first round pick, because they traded it to the already stacked Patriots, for Joe freaking Staley. Over paying for average players like Nate Clements and Justin Smith, won't get you anywhere. Just ask Al Davis.
u left out Michael Lewis the guy who lost his job in philly to Sean Considine

Still, it has to be done. Tampering is against the rules, and there has to be punishment when the rules are broken...
