Jake Long

I was wondering if anyone else is tired of seeing 3 & 4 defenders in the backfield on every play? Our orginization has yet to make a commitment to an offensive line, & until they do we will have to painstakingly watch our Atlanta Falcons struggle to be a 8 -8 team if that. Micheal Vick hurt us since the word go, he had the scrambling ability that forced defense's in the NFL to completely change schemes when facing the falcons. Having said that Vick made our WORTHLESS OFFENSIVE LINE look great on paper to everyone in the country. The faithful fans of the Falcons however saw the brutal reality of our OL's lackluster attempts of a so called pocket. Vick having to scramble after a 3 step drop, Dunn getting hit for negative 2 yards or barely getting back to the line 9 out of 10 times until he breaks 1 for 20 - 80 yards. The only offense we had was big plays, I am tired of seeing the majority of our drives end with a 3 & out on our own 20 yard line. Our organization seems to have a bad habit of drafting the best available player as opposed to best available needs player. I am not impressed with the QB"S coming out for the draft this year. It is not often that an OL is good enough to be drafted in the top 3, why not take advantage of it. If we draft Jake Long we would get immediate results as opposed to a QB who is going to sit for 1-3 years. Who knows with a pocket Redman/Shockley might actually shock the nation. Without Jake Long we will probally have a fith string QB starting by week 3, due to injuries or **** maybe even death.

I am with you in spirit, but I don't think Long is a number three talent. He is no Joe Thomas. There are really good o-linemen that will be available in the late first and through the second round. I say trade the pick and get two monsters for the price of one. Grab a QB late in the first as well. I say Brohm has just as much of an upside as Ryan, and we can get him much later.

And Bingo was his name-o.

I totally agree with you.

My concerns on Long are regarding the discussions around his footwork. Many scouts are considering him to be a non-blindside tackle...or (given that most QBs are right-handed) a RT. A RT demands far less money than a LT and taking (1) at #3 overall is crazy. We would be better to look to Dorsey or Ellis to address DT needs....or maybe trade down and look at some of the other pure LTs that might be available.

I am glad that I don't have to make this decision; very difficult picking that high up since it demands alot of money. JT came out last year and as a pure LT had a great combine and a terrific rookie season...he also got a monster deal.....

I have constantly heard people say on these boards, we can pick up a few OL later in the draft for much less money. That tells me that people think it's okay to spend money on a star running back or a QB or even a wide receiver (all glamour positions by the way). Everything starts with the offensive and defensive front, so why not spend the money on those positions. If I was GM, I would probably go DT or OL with the #3 pick. My reasoning would be that I can win with an average QB, average RB, average WR, average DB but I can't win if my OL sucks and my DL sucks.

I will be alright if we pick up long or dorsey/ellis at 3. I do hope we trade down in the draft though. If we can trade down and still be in the top 10 that would be perfect. We might actually still have a chance to pick up dorsey or ellis (depending on the need for DT before us).

We all know that mcfadden wont make it past oakland(or we believe so) so maybe the jets will make a move.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! As long as we keep adding to it until we have a group that can dominate both pass & run. If you put Peyton Manning behind our line next season he would be broken completely in half & looking through his earhole, regardless of how good of an offensive mind he is.
