Oh No Its The Cops
If Trevor Laws is available with our second second round pick, TD better snag this kid. Sure he is only 6'1" but then again so is Ellis, and honestly how often do you see a DT get 112 tackles in a season. Not to mention he blocked I think 7 kicks in college. His motor never stops, and he's got an amazing instinct to the ball. His work ethic and discipline are also very impressive...He gained 30 pounds in two months before the combine, working out 3 times a day and eating 5 times a day! It paid off, he was first among DT's in the bench press with 35 reps and also first in the vertical leap at 30.5" which means he has pretty impressive strength and explosion. He just knows how to use every inch he has to an advantage. Where he impressed most was in his positional drills, where he seemed very fluent, energetic, and explosive. I even heard Mike Mayock say that he listed his height as a negative and not Ellis's because he just couldn't find anyting else to put. Its all positive. And a real good character guy, which is now rather high on Blank's priority list.I'm not saying he is better than Dorsey or Ellis at this point, but a great value in the second round for sure. I am very curious to see what he can do in the NFL. If it was a perfect first day of the draft, i would hope it would be 1. Jake Long 2a. Brian Brohm (pending his and other QB's pro days) 2b. Trevor LawsAnybody else feel the same?
seafalconsfan
I'm all for drafting J Long @ 3 and gettting Laws in the second. i think I was more impressed with him at the combine than any other DT

J. Falcon
If we don't get Dorsey in the 1st we must get Laws in the 2nd.
seafalconsfan
J. Falcon (3/7/2008)If we don't get Dorsey in the 1st we must get Laws in the 2nd.I agree, he seems like he is inbetween a DT and a DE(physical size) but I think he could grow into a Dt
stumpjumper
Mayock has him listed as his #4 top DT....and I found something, from NFL Draft Scout.AnalysisPositives: Short, squatty, powerful build. ... Good initial quickness off the snap to generate an instant advantage on his opponent. ... Quick, strong hands to disengage from defenders. ... Showed significant improvement in this area as a senior. ... Good burst when he clears the line to close on the ballcarrier. ... Most impressive attribute is his non-stop motor. ... Simply doesn't quit on a play. ... Laterally and down-the-field, there may not be a defensive lineman in the country who pursues as passionately or effectively. ... Strong performance throughout the week of practice and the Senior Bowl boosted stock considerably.Negatives: Lacks preferred size inside. ... Marginal strength to anchor despite his natural leverage advantage. ... Best suited to a three technique position in the 4-3 alignment and may be limited to only that role. somecut8
I'm still trying to fathom that fact that he got 112 tackles. And thats like what, in a 13 game season? so that means he needed to get like 9 tackles a game. Even LBs and Safeties can't do that. Are you sure that stats are correct? Oh No Its The Cops
Did you see Law's senior bowl? He played lights out. I've yet to see a poor performance by him from the couple Notre Dame games I saw on TV in 2007, the senior bowl, and the combine. He seems to bring his best at all times. Consistent. and Jake Long is a must by watching the offensive line play recently, and by my belief that by drafting Matt Ryan, we would have a good chance of being stuck with another Joey Harrington type of bust. There would be 5 years down the drain. No disrespect to Joey intended, but numbers dont lie.
stumpjumper
OverviewWith all of the attention heaped upon LSU's Glenn Dorsey and Southern California's Sedrick Ellis, some might be surprised to note Laws is by far and away the most productive defensive tackle eligible for the draft. Utilizing a quick burst, impressive hand technique and a non-stop motor, Laws' team-leading 112 tackles ranks only one behind Steve Niehaus as the most in Irish history from a defensive lineman. A strong performance at the Senior Bowl proved Laws wasn't a product of a leaky Notre Dame defense, but a standout despite it.

Laws needs to be looked at closely.
Oh No Its The Cops
I found a website of his. He writes on it like a path to the draft diary type of thing sometimes. Its basically a blog thing, but I found it interesting. He seems very focused and down to earth. I'm very impressive by him. I would love to see him in a Falcons uniform in 08. http://www.trevor-laws.com/blog/blog.php

stumpjumper
Probably, and there has been hype all year for Dorsey even in the preseason. Ellis elevated his stock at the senior bowl. Laws would be great in 2nd round, pick up J.Long in the first, Brohm and Laws in the 2nd...we'd have fixed most of our Oline, and got a good QB + DT in the 2nd imo. Oh No Its The Cops
Might be because of the type of season Notre Dame had. Glenn Dorsey was being hyped up as the best even before the season started, so he kind of got all the attention I think.

stumpjumper
Heck, you made a good find...you should throw Laws' name out tomorrow afternoon when more people are on to get more info on him, but for now in my humble opinion we could do some massive repair work to both lines by getting Long and him. Oh No Its The Cops
I know he played DE, but in a 3-4 defense, thats not a far stretch from an interior defensive lineman in a 4-3. 112 tackles in as a DE or at DT is still very impressive nonetheless. Whether there was no one else and he had to do it all himself, who cares he did do it. Teams could have avoided him if that was the case, and maybe they tried, but he still found a way to the ball. He's a tough competitor
