The INPERFECT " art" of drafting.....

matt ryan? glen dorsey? sedrick ellis? jake long?

whoever the falcons wind up selecting, everyone needs to realize something..........THERE ARE NO GUARENTEES!

we dont know, the so called draft experts like mel kiper dont know, and general managers across the nfl dont even know!!.........its a crapshoot........

go look at all the first round selections from like 1990 on......you will see names that youve never even heard of before.......you'll see some big time names with not such big time stats as a pro........and then yes you will see some stars.......

point is there's 30 picks in every years first round(give or take).......thats 30 players...........some wind up serviceable, some wind up working on a farm by age 25, and some wind up at pro bowls..........

for anyone to say someone is a "cant miss" is just ********....and on the flip side, to say someone is never going to be good before they even take a snap is equally ignorant........

we , as fans, have zero control over who atlantas going to pick at #3......however, what we can control is weather or not we support the player and make him feel wanted........

if we draft matt ryan it wouldnt be the end of the world.........there were a truck load of fans in detroit that were happy when they got joey harrington from oregon, howd that work out? how bout the fans that wanted leaf in san diego........and the cincy fans that liked akili smith?..........

i live in nyc and most if not all fans werent happy when they traded what they did to get eli manning.........he was bashed, critiqued, and picked apart by the media and fans his whole time here...........and then look what happened.......hes now a ny legend and will get a free pass for life........and thats saying alot in nyc...........he owns the town now, eats free wherever he goes, gets standing ovations when he walks into a public place, etc.........

the point is here, a truely bright person is wise enough to know he/she doesnt know everything.........none of us here are general managers for an nfl team..........so stop acting like it......

how would you like it if you were an accountant and someone came to your job complaining about how you were doing your job and making suggestions on what you " really" need to do??......yes im getting a little carried away, but still.......what im trying to say is lets be supportive........if ryan is a bust years from now then yes, say i told you so.........but give the kid a real shot...........its not like we have any other qb that can throw anything other then a fit on our roster right now............so why not............

so in closing, just remember, theres a good chance 65-75% of the names called in this years first round wont amount to be the next big thing, or even just a pro bowler..........so dont get all bent out of shape if we dont pick the guy you wanted........we have enough holes on this team to go round, so whoever we get will fill a need, and thats what the drafts purpose is , right??
