The alimighty QB

I do not know why we spend so much time on here debating which lackluster QB we are going to draft. It is quite clear now that the future of the Falcons is going to be a BIG DEFENSE and run first team. Has anyone else noticed that we have not signed or released any receivers yet. Crumpler doesnt count because we had to upgrade to a better blocking TE for our running game. I think we will for sure use our #3 on a DT or on our o-line. If we blow our #3 and give a hugh contract to Ryan, I will loose all confidence in the Falcons staff.

I have to agree with you. I think we will draft a QB with a later pick, and take a DL with our first pick. I say DL, because we are more thin there than we are at OL now. Not to mention a a good defensive tackle can make an immediate impact, and create a good buzz for the team. I think the best way for a new coach to succeed, is to have a great defense.

OL or DL it does'nt matter to me, but QB at no.3 is not the highest priority.

It's nice to have a flashy QB but not an absolute neccessity.

We need a QB that can;

Manage a game.

Keep bad decisions to a minimum.

Accurate on 3rd downs.

Trusted by teammates.

I believe we have that (for now) with Redman.

Surely he can hand the ball to Norwood and Turner without fumbling?

We are going to become the Jags :P lol

No I agree we do not need someone special at Qb. Of course it would be helpful, but many teams get by, winning games, without a Star Qb. We don't need a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. The Chargers do fine with Rivers, the Cards with Leinart/Warner, even the Lions and Kitna.

Of course I would like a big upgrade at QB, but not at the expense of other positions/needs.

Good point --- we may be about to witness some boring football. -- but hopefully we will win our share of games.

What's scary is looking at next year's QB draft. --- Unless some of the Juniors declare early it will be the pits.

It's really hard to win without at least solid, starting quality QB play. What you call "lackluster" is QB's who don't play like Mike Vick with the highlight runs, flash, hype, etc. I'll take a lackluster Qb like Eli Manning anyday.

I think we can get by on what we have and maybe pick up a QB in the draft in Rnd 2 or 3. The important thing is we could go out on a limb and acquire a top QB and not address the OL and this 'superstar' will turn out to be just another Harrington (or worse).

As for the WR's, I think we'll be okay there as White showed he can get the job done and Robinson showed great improvement during his rookie season. I would like to see Jenkins step up as Roddy has though. This will probably be his make it or break it season with the Birds. I can see the WR's being addressed as well as the LB's next year if we're able to get the OL/DL addressed this year.

What if the OL turns into the next Robert Gallery/Mike Williams. Why do so many fans think QB is the only position that can bust.

Here's a question for you guy who think QB's are overrated: When was the last time the Falcons went into the playoffs without a QB who played at a Pro Bowl level that year?

Tail end of that I agree with. The QB doesn't need to be flashy in this offense. But once all the other issues are straightened out with the O-line and D-line Then we can address the QB "of the future" concern.

Well considering we've had nine playoff teams in 41 seasons we'll review this.

1978* - Beat Philadelphia and loss to Dallas. Bartkowski was Pro Bowler on the '80 & '81 teams (no playoffs in '81). (We went to playoffs again in 1980 and loss to Dallas again, the BIG one!)

1991 - Chris Miller led Atlanta to win over West Champion New Orleans 27-20. (He was a Pro Bowler that year).

1995* - Jeff George in loss to Green Bay in Wild Card playoff. He was not a Pro Bowl pick that year.

1998 - Chris Chandler played in the Pro Bowl after leading Atlanta to the Super Bowl.

2002 & 2004 - Mike Vick played in the Pro Bowl after leading Atlanta to the playoffs.
