Recommended Posts

Thoiught I would start this as a source for us all to check regarding new updates and rumors. If you hear something that hasn't been posted previously, post it here and cite the source if you can. That way we can all look for the latest news in one spot. If you want to link to another place to diuscuss the pros and cons do it, but I would prefer to see this as an onoging information site only. Save the debate for places you link to and make it easy for us all to keep with the latest news and rumors.

We are in discussion with Kendall Morehead. DT that has 5 years of experience with the Panthers. Deal could come say soon as this weekend sources say. I wish I could find the link.

Not surprised we're going after a DT, considering Trey Lewis's injury. Moorehead actually looks pretty solid though. 6'2, 285, looks like a good, penetrating, Cover 2 DT.

The Atlanta Falcons today signed three players, including defensive tackles Kindal Moorehead and Rashad Moore, and defensive end Simon Fraser.

Moorehead, 6-2, 285 pounds, joins the Falcons after spending the previous five seasons in a Carolina Panthers uniform. In 75 career games, he has totaled 138 tackles (85 solo), nine sacks, three forced fumbles, four passes defensed and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

The Alabama alum has competed in all 16 games for the past two seasons and totaled the second multiple-sack game of his career in 2006 against the Falcons in the season finale. In 2004, Moorehead totaled a career-high 50 tackles while his 17-yard interception return for a touchdown against quarterback Brian Griese and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sealed a Panthers 37-20 victory.

Moore, 6-3, 325 pounds, has collared 88 career tackles (61 solo), three sacks, two passes defensed, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in four NFL seasons. He was originally drafted by Seattle in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL Draft and spent two seasons with the Seahawks. In 2004, he tallied 46 stops (32 solo), two sacks and three fumble recoveries, which were all career highs.

In 2006, Moore was claimed off of waivers by the New York Jets before joining the New England Patriots last season.

Fraser, 6-6, 300 pounds, spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns and compiled 54 tackles (28 solo), 4.5 sacks, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 48 games.

In 2006, the Ohio State graduate totaled 4.5 sacks which ranked second on the defensive unit while contributing with 36 stops, three passes defensed and a blocked extra point against Cincinnati.

Free agent DE Corey Smith is in Green Bay for a visit on Wednesday.

The meeting was originally expected to happen on Monday. Smith will go to Houston if no deal is struck, and possibly Minnesota and Atlanta after that. LB Brandon Chillar is also expected to arrive in Titletown later Wednesday.

"I was told by a reliable source within the Atlanta Falcons organization that Brohm is the highest-rated quarterback on their board. It was said that owner Arthur Blank has been sold on Brohm for quite sometime and feels that he would make the team's questionable receiving corps better due to his readiness."

"The Falcons re-signed defensive tackle Tim Anderson on Monday.

Anderson, 6-foot-3, 304 pounds, played in five games with the Falcons after signing as a free agent in November, 2007. He played four games with Buffalo, who drafted him in the third round out of Ohio State in 2004, last season."

Consider the source, but the Dayton Daily News has a supposed insider saying Brohm is our #1 QB on the Draft Board.  I am always leery of unnamed inside sources from out of town, especially where there is no reason to suspect that the out-of-towner has someone reliable, but it is published and interesting if nothing else:

The Atlanta Falcons today signed unrestricted free agent center Alex Stepanovich from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Stepanovich (step-AHN-o-vich), 6-4, 300 pounds, is a four-year veteran who was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. In his rookie campaign he started all 16 games and blocked for the League s all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith, who gained 937 yards. Stepanovich started in 14 games in the next two seasons for Arizona (2005-2006) before he signed with the Bengals as a free agent on March 16, 2007. Last season, he competed in 12 games with Cincinnati, which included four starts. He contributed to a pass protection unit that allowed only 17 sacks, a franchise record-low.

An Ohio State alum, Stepanovich competed for the Buckeyes from 2000-2003 and started as both a junior and senior. He played center for the school s 2002 National Championship team that defeated Miami (Fla.) in the Fiesta Bowl along with Falcons wide receiver Michael Jenkins, defensive tackle Tim Anderson and tight end Ben Hartsock.

Thanks.  ;)

He should add some real quality depth at G/C.

I will post a list of our free agents, contract tenders, and current status of negotiations involving our players a little later.  Since it is not as readily accesible, I want to cross-refernce several sources to make sure I have as complete a list as possible.

Looks like we are building Ohio State South here. Could this be an omen for us trying to draft Vernon Gholston?

I think we just like the big beefy farm boys over 300 lbs from OSU.

Come on, I was being sarcastic!
