Electric Falcon
I just wanted to ask, and say, are the Falcons building a team with the same philosophy of the Jacksonville Jaguars? Is that what we should expect for this upcomming season? Or should we expect something new? That's the most important thing of all, because I could care less about watching the Jags play football!!!! Not to mention the Jags SUCK when CRUNCH TIME STARTS!!!!!! I wanna know your opinion? And this isn't my total opinion, I'm just making a comparison to another team and looking at how the parts to the puzzle are starting to fall together. Please don't get mad at me because I'm just saying : " Are we looking at the Atlanta Jaguars style of football instead of the Atlanta Falcons?". I'm just starting to wonder that with the building process of the team..... I know there will be some who say "Who cares as long as we win", yeah that's all good and well, but my thing is I wanna see the Falcons win it all!!!!! What do you think? Are we building the Jaguars all over again? And don't get mad at me because I am only asking your opinions because I value them on the subject. chickenfried
I hope we have some Jag-like play -- that's a defense that stops the run and makes big plays. Special teams that win the field position battle. And the offense with balance and power.I'd also like to see some of what Mularkey had in Pitt during his reign as OC -- that is much of the same as the Jags with balance and power, but some real attitude and the ability to open up the field to keep the defense honest. It's not going to be the most exciting game, but it's about establishing a foundation -- a power core. nativefalcon
A power running team with a competent QB and a hellacious defense. The jagz with a serious atlanta attitude. Redmen doesn;t even have to be good just competent.
russ7000
We should have a power team on both sides of the ball..... we will not be as fast like when we had vick. but we will not be as slow as the Jags :cool:
Robert L
Well, perhaps a similar styled offense, big power running type of line. Jam the ball down your throat and the heave it deep down field. Defensively it's hard to say but I think we will go after some big bodies on the D-line as well. But it starts in the front office and to me it seems we are going after guy that play, play hard are intelligent and handle themselves on AND off the field with style, dignity and honor. But heh-I make just be f#$%ed to...so who knows :P

For one thing, yeah the Jags have always looked balanced and all that on offense and defense as far as power goes, but they've never won it all, and that's all that matters in the end IMO! woodstockfan
Freeze, Nobody should be mad about your question. It is valid. From what I have heard and now seen, I believe TD and MS share the same philosophy. We will see some elements of what the Jags did and what the Pats have been able to do. It appears the basic philosophy is to build a blue collar style of team that are just football players who are smart, physical, and are all about team. They both emphasize stopping the run by being very physical up front and running the ball and not getting in 3rd and long situations very much. You do this by first building the trenches and going outward. I really don't think it is about copying what someone else did, but about having the same philosophy of what you want and putting those parts together. Hopefully what you get is a team that has it's own identity. It may be akin to the Jags or Pats, but will still have it's own identity and personality. I think it is going to be something very special; it may take a little time to complete the project, but it will be worth it. Of all my years of being a Falcon fan, I cannot recall having a GM and a HC that are as much in concert with each other as what we have here now. I am very excited!! I'd like to see if Roddy can sustain what he did last year with 1000yd receiving. We did have some highlights last year and if we can balance the offense with a power running game, then we'll win the South or at least compete very well. I would love to build a team like the Jags have because whether or not they have won it all (which we haven't either) they still field a great squad, defense is strong on all three levels, and they boast a great running game. I personally don't know why a fan WOULDN'T want to field a team that has defense that is solid at all three levels and a versatile running game, if we can add a passing game to that formula I would say we would have a good team. But to be honest I think we are a couple of years away.

Ran-dawg
I see what your saying but the Jaguars always play ball control offense and great techniquely sound Defense so it wouldn't be horrible. The reason they choke at crunch time was mainly because the QB we just cut, Leftwich. Also, unfortunately we don't have a style of football. The closest thing we've ever had has been either in the 90's with the run and shoot or in the 2000's with MV7 experience. We have to develope a Falcons style of football and I think it will be much like The Patriots and The Jaguars. Big lines on both side of the ball and techniquely sound on both sides of the ball. Eventually that recipe should start winning and with any luck, just maybe we can win in back to back seasons.
GEORGIAfan
its a combo of UGA/jags Defense, and the offense will be a Pit like offense, when the bus was there.

hornsmd
I would say more of a 4-3 Pittsburgh. Strong D, punishing running, and vertical passing
AF89
The thing the jags are lacking is a big time seroius pass threat. If we are going to have a power core were going to need a good blocking/recieving TE or Wr like say a oh I don't know Algae Crumpler :P (j/k about crumpler). But seroiusly we need someone who can make the tough catch over the middle after the defense is up in the box playing the run. Roddy would be the perimeter guy, while Norwood provides the speed (like taylor) and Tuner has the power (like MDJ).

Vicious
Think of the UGA Dawgs on a pro level. The similarities between the systems ran are going to be uncanny. I'm not saying that as a homer or as a knock on the fans of other teams, but the style will definitely resemble how Georgia plays. A lot of power running with play action and a cover 2 defense with a strong front 4 pass rush. I'm loving it!
