Griese traded to Bucs

Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Griese has been traded to the Bucs.

Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but it is likely for a second-day draft pick. Griese was owed a $300,000 roster bonus Tuesday, prompting the Bears to put him on the market. Rather than risk bidding for him in free agency, the Bucs completed a trade.

It's Griese's second stint with Tampa Bay. He quarterbacked the Bucs to a 5-1 start in 2005 before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Chris Simms went 6-5 down the stretch, leading the Bucs to the playoffs before a loss to Washington in the NFC wildcard game.

The Bucs were unable to renegoiate Griese's contract and he became a free agent, signing with the Bears.

Ironically, the trade for Griese leaves Simms' future with the Bucs in doubt. He has not played a meaningful snap in about 16 months and could be traded or released. The Bucs also have Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski under contract.

Maybe he would trade for MV7. That shouldn't bother too many people on this site because he's not a good QB, right? LOL. As a Falcon fan I wouldn't want that to happen but it would be almost worth it to see how all of these hillbilly Vick haters react when we have to face him. They would be terrified as I would and as our D-fense would. They would probably call it the 2nd biggest mistake next to Brett in AF history. They would critizise Blank and call for the head of TD. It would almost be worth it.

The sucs are having a pretty bad offseason.

They give up a draft pick for a QB they let go for nothing.

They sign a center to the highest contract ever signed by a center before, and the guy has never even received pro bowl consideration, much less actually made a pro bowl.

And signing 2 minor backup role players.

I thought the SAME THING when I heard this on ESPN yesterday. :hehe:

I also remember all of the crap the Sucs fans talked about Griese when he was let go. I'm going over to their MB to see their reactions now that he's back.
