Capitalist
I actually would like to see Redman, Shockley and a Draft Pick QB in the stable. Harrington and his cap $ are better spent elsewhere...
Twinblade
I don't think Harrington will be cut, It will probably be Harrington/Redman/Draft pick
Dimitriamus
Ryan is a younger version of Harry, but he is smarter and not scared!harry needs to teach Ryan how to be a QB, so he stays, Shockley, Redman will fight it out for three!
formul8or
Harrington knows the offense and is a decent backup. With Redman being resigned I expect Shockley will be cut this week, as our drafted QB fills the 3rd spot.

Tie goes to the smaller contract. My prediction is that Harrington goes during the last cuts.
greyhawk
I look for Harrington to be cut after all the FA moves have been made. That way they can pick up a late round qb in the draft.

Rodney
Redman returns as the #1 QB, Harrington returns as #2 QB---Harrington brings experience off the bench. He is capable of entering the game at any moment if an injury takes place. The 3rd slot goes either to a rookie QB or to DJ. If we draft a QB, then DJ will be history. Our offensive line will be improved but it will not be that good. Expect our QB's to still take some hits....We need a veteran that is capable of playing decent for 1-2 games as our backup. Harrington can play well, he is not a big play maker that will win games on his arm...but he can maintain and pull his own weight to assist win.DJ is not much better than a rookie. We don't want a rookie coming off the bench. Harrington is not costly either. Some say...DJ is a better fit due to his mobility. But....So what, if DJ scrambles away from a sack only to throw an interception or completes only 50% of his passes. He lacks experience and at this stage of his career, needs alot of work in order to improve his inconsistancies. DJ is not ready to take on a larger roll....Hopefully this next training camp will help him out and prepare him for promotion into the #2 slot. Also....Redman has some mobility as does Harrington. Both of those QB's are more mobile than Dan Marino ever was, Bledsoe, or Brady.
Falcons Ace
His value as a solid backup cannot be ignored. He rarely loses you a game, but he doesn't really go out and win games. Redman is a LOCK for starter after the way he performed last year. Joey is the backup. Shockley or FA/Draft QB is the 3rd string guy. dan minnich
harrington is a great nfl back-up, he just cant handle starting a full 16 games
stumpjumper
Harrington has 2 things going for him - few (if any) off field problems, and he has has started in the NFL before. I'm going with some of our previous posters, Harrington will be our #2 QB and will help Redman groom the draft pick. DJ will be lucky if he survives the training camp cuts. Ran-dawg
Shockley has a much better arm than Harrington and can move around(hopefully he still can after his knee injury). I think they battle it out for #2. After Redman's performances last season, I think there is no doubt that he is #1. We draft either Henne or Flacco and they will sit for a year maybe two if Redman has a good year because he signed a 2 yr. contract. If we sign Williams and draft either J Long or Clady we should have a solid running attack taking a tremendous amount of pressure of the QB. Redman could have a decent year. WORSE 2 FIRST!!!! Once again we can own the South!!!
Cam or phe
Twinblade (3/3/2008)I don't think Harrington will be cut, It will probably be Harrington/Redman/Draft pickwhy do ppl like u keep makeing this mistake? Harring ton v.s Shockly, D.J wins every time. Hes more popular, hes more drivin, Hes BETTER at being a QB, And hes from UGA. Why not keep him?Harrington is a firts round draft pick BUST! thats right I saide it. Hes been on more teams than u can imagen, He sucks horrible. . . D.J is our future starter, and hes going 2 be better than all of the qb's ever to win a game in our club.

Daniel Chosen
I heard they were trying to lure Ryan Leaf out of retirement so they didn't have to waste a pick on a QB. That way that have a former #2 overall pick and a #3 overall pick on the roster.I think Harrington stays as a back-up, but I hope they don't make that decision until training camp. At least give Shockley a chance, if he can beat Harrington in TC, then he should stay. I mean the only thing Shockley has had a chance to prove so far is that he is a better QB than Bryan Randall. Noles1985!
Why would we keep joey? If the guy can not take all the reps with the first team then go out and perform at a good enough level to win; then why would he do any better out of the back up position? Obviously, the NFL scouts thought the same....Harrington was a #1 draft pick and Redman was a #3....DJ was what? #6 round?......Being from UGA does not mean that he has the skills to be a quality NFL starter. There have been many of UGA players that are watching the games on tv on Sunday. This is about having the skills to lead a NFL team as a starting QB, not about being in a popularity contest. It takes more than having a strong arm and being able to run. As a QB, you have to be able to make quick reads on the defense. You must be able to complete what you throw (to our own teammates). As a QB, you have to make sound decisions on the field....calling an aldible...Knowing your abilities or lack of abilities. I hope DJ succeeds....but as of today....he is not ready to be the primary back up. He has only played 1 year in the NFL as the #3 QB.....Unfortunately, he was hurt in his second year. He was drafted late because he is a local favorite, and he does have some good tools....He was not drafted earlier because he is in need of alot of work. His work will come in Training Camp.....If he shows progress, then as a young QB....he may beat out Harrington....But as of last years training camp....He struggled and then was injured.....He needs more time. Hopefully Atlanta will not draft a QB this year, thus giving him more time.In comment about Harrington being on 3 different teams.....He has been good enough to be starter for all 3 teams....That means he was better than the other QB's on each team (Garcia, Culpepper, and many others)

With Redman being resigned I expect Shockley will be cut this week, as our drafted QB fills the 3rd spot.Petrino is gone and has taken the offense with him. So Harrington, Redman and Shockley are all learning a new offense. Harrington is obviously the weak link among the 3 so cutting him would be justified. DJ has more upside and should succeed in a run heavy offense. Harrington is the expendable one.
texasbirdfan
as usual, most of you mental clowns conveniently forget we have a budget called the Salary Cap. If you know little about the Cap, please don't post or create threads about aquiring free agents or cutting players under contract.Harrington has a whopping 300 thousand dollar cap relief if he should be let go. Are you guys kidding? Where are you going to get a qb for that money?

Shockley vs Harrington - DJ Wins everytime only in your own mind.Popularity doesn't matter."More Driven"? Have you been to training camp, do you personally know Shockley?Shockley has done TERRIBLE other than a single good drive in a pre-season game. Joey looked like Tom Brady in pre-season. So what if he is from UGA. The Falcons isn't the seniors only league for your Bulldogs. Get your homerism under control.

greyhawk
Shockley's future depends on two very big questions.1. Is he healthy? If he isn't IMHO he'll be cut. If he is then we go to #22. Can he learn to read NFL defenses fast? He missed out on a year of practicing which would have allowed him time to learn. If he can't he'll most like be cut during training camp.
