The Falcons have turned the corner

Oh yea we have Ovie! Think about this...

1. Not many teams in the NFL use a blocking FB anymore. So that means most of the teams we play won't be as ready for it as other teams that only use a single back.

2. Using Ovie to chip at a DT or pounding the LB will get old on those opposing defenses. Add the fact that now we have a RB that weighs 237 and runs a 4.4. I was hoping we would get Turner since last season when I heard he would be a FA. With his size and speed he will punish anyone in the secondary who tries to tackle him 1 on 1.

3. If you noticed our OL played better when Petrino left. They went back to a standard blocking scheme. That was with undrafted backups to the low drafted starters. Dimitroff will go after early in the draft BIG OL and we will again be able to pound the rock. Cleveland was not the 1st team to turn around once they got their LT. Mark my words, when we get our new LT we will win. ALOT!

4. This running game will set up the play action. Roddy White and Laurant Robinson are speed demons who can catch. RW went for over 1000 yds last year with a team ranked last in passing game stats. Once we hit a few big passes, defenses will have to cover them. At least one will have to be doubled. Safeties can not let them get behind them. Now we can go right back to the run.

It is actually the offense New Orleans uses with Duece. Once Duece went out due to injury their play action did not work and they lost games. Brees did not look like the Pro Bowler of last year without his big back and play action.

Redman only has to manage the game, which he can do. Similar to Brees, he can hit the open WR in the seams and holes of the defense off on the play action.

5. I believe the way of the future for defenses will be to rotate, rotate, and rotate. Look for us to get at least 2 if not 3 DT in the draft. And let me add that they will play no matter where they are drafted. A rotation at DT and with DE between J Anderson, J Abraham, and Chauncy Davis will keep us fresh and able to stop the run.

If we move down in the draft or trade Hall for picks it will be to target a MLB. We don't need Hall. He is a single man to man cover type player. We will be in zone most of the time and williams may fit the type they want. We need someone bigger than Hall who can hit. Houston will have to grow up and cover the Panthers Smith WR when man to man is needed. He just has to cover him for a couple of seconds till our DL gets to the QB.

I think 8-8 is realistic for next season with an outside shot if things go well, of having a winning record. Not everything will be addressed thru FA so we have to draft well then develop the talent. That takes a little time.

We were last in the NFC South last year, so that pretty much sets us up to be first this year.

That's true if the current trend continues...we are making solid moves. I think we'll be better than most expect.

Agree. 8-8 is better than either of the two previous years.

Please guys, all it takes is the right leadership and players to be a winning team. We can get the players. We already have gotten rid of the trash and got some new blood in here. We can be a real physical team when its all said and done. I really think this team is going to suprise a lot of idiots out there. Just wait to see what our roster will look like once the draft is over.

What's wrong with a little optimism? He actually made some good points. The play action all but disappeared from the offense last year. It seems like when we use it, it pays big dividends.

thank you some of these "fans" have NOTHING but negative things to say about everything! This team is deffinetly headed in the right direction and i get more excited by the day waiting for the season

We are not even set up for an 8-8 season next year just yet, the draft may help us a lot but it all depends on how our division rivals do in move making.

And the Saints are making some good moves.

Yeah, it's just terrible to see fans have some faith and positive outlook for our team.

Agreed. Shame on these fans that actually have good things to say about what the team's doing. How dare they actually applaud good personnel moves? Shame shame shame.

OK, well....plenty of teams still do use a full back, and having one is NOT going to catch anyone off guard. Teams have plenty of time to prepare, and seriously-if a team was to be unprepared for a fullback-those coaches should be fired and NEVER allowed back into the NFL.

This line will need more than just a left tackle, accross the board with linemen for competition and depth as well...and then it also will take time for them to jell as a unit...it's not just plug in a guy or two or three and poof instant SB bound line...it takes some time...

In terms of Hall, it is hard to get a quality corner in this league, and even having one when you play a Cover2 style defense is nice, because if you CAN'T get to the QB with your front 4-you are forced to blitz. And as it stands right now...we won't be. When the D-line is up to snuff, it would still be nice to have so you CAN throw in the occasional blitz. The other deal with Hall is that he DOES have all the talent to be a premier player, maybe with stability in the FO, and locker room with a solid staff that will stick around will help him calm down a little. It could get him to have his head in the game more...I wouldn't ship him unless he couldn't be resigned...

I wonder sometimes if any of the experts on this board ever played football, coached football, or has a son who made 1st string All District 5-A as DE and was recruited for college scholarships. (Unfortunately he decided for me to pay for Med School instead of scholarship) I played in HS. I admit wasn't big enough or good enough. Coached many Little League to championships. I coached when my son was in Little League. I am now retired from he Navy and I am a Fitness trainer. I coach speed/strength for a few college and HS football and LaCrosse. Free of charge as long as they don't mind if I workout also.

What do you mean by jell? Once any player is drafted in todays NFL they begin right away. It starts in the mini camps and all of the other so called "non mandatory" camps they have. Then it goes to training camp. Then the NFL has something no one else has... preseason. Sure HS and College has scrimages. But basically a month of perfecting your game?

Football is nothing more than blocking and tackling. We can have McFadden, Manning, Moss and have the best known O coordinator and it won't make a hill of beans if we can not block. It did not matter when we had Vick, Crump, Dunn, Price, White, or any of the other stars on offense.

The same can be said about the defense. Brooking, Hall, Abraham, it doesn't matter if we can't stop the run upfront or pressure the QB. Also we need turnovers. Not the occasional INT from Hall. I hope to see a swarming defense that attacks the ball. If 1 defensive player hits the runner, then 3 to 4 should be there to clean up and ripping at the ball.

If the Falcons build there OL and DL like Dimitroff and Smith has swore, then the Falcons have to get better. They can not get any worse. Look at all of the great coaches and QBs. Good OL and DL puts them in that catergory. Both Mannings, Dungy, Cowher, Del Rio, Jimmy Johnson... They all had great great OL and a strong Defensive front.
