at an NFL crossroads...

i'm coming to this message bored as a confused and disillusioned NFL fan... more specifically a Patriots fan. before you flame me, hear me out on my story. and while this may seem a bit odd or random, perhaps some of the more diehard NFL fans will hear me out.

i've been a Pats fan since '95... and i'd say i was more of a fanatic than a fan. sitting through some of those lowly seasons only to have them win 3 superbowls in 4 years was incredible... but now the truth is coming out and i don't know what to believe. Belichick has always been a bit shady, but i stood by him all the way through.

i've gone back and forth on the Spygate thing... part of me thinks it didn't give them an advantage, and also that many other teams do it. another part of me just feels like these past 13 years as a Patriots fan have been all for naught. i don't know if i really want to be rooting for someone so shady and misleading. i could be the typical Pats fan and stick my head in the sand and say "they only did it once, and they didn't get an advantage from it" but i don't agree with that statement. i feel betrayed.

anyhow, i want to start rooting for a new team. in this search, i've realized it would be more fun and interesting to root for a team who has been around a while but not won a Super Bowl. my original choice would be the Lions, because i loved Barry Sanders when he was around.

However, for one reason or another, i think I like the Atlanta Falcons even more. first off, i've been a Braves fan for over 10 years (though i am from New England, we do get all the games on TBS). other than the fact that i think the Falcons uniforms are SICK (black is bad-#####!) i like change, and i like rooting for the dogs. Mike Smith seems like a very knowledgable guy and my kind of coach... just tough, hard-nosed football. i like what he did and Jacksonville, and i think he can really turn things around in Atlanta. I just want to see that franchise put this silly Vick B.S. in the past and come around (in a lot of ways like the once badboy Portland "Jail"Blazers have turned it around in the NBA).

all in all, this franchise seems like a perfect fit for me, as it looks like there is a lot more in the future for this franchise. i also really like Michael Turner, and hopefully they can make some noise in the draft (personally, i'd rather take a defender or Jake Long at #3, then take Joe Flacco in the 2nd round, he's gonna be nice in the NFL).

anyways, hope my rant wasn't too long, and hopefully i'll be accepted in the Falcons community should i choose to go that rout. and whether or not i do, i will certainly be rooting for them next season.

Welcome aboard. 1st off try to avoid saying anything about dogs on this message board. Kinda a sore subject. I agree with you that Bill is shady. The main thing I look at is that I can't remember the Pats calling an audible. A sure sign they knew something. Once again glad to have you here.

Please excuse him. He only wants attention.

Unfortunately TBS won't be showing the games anymore. Glad to see another fan though :)

As long as you are die hard I'm all for ya. I understand wanting to feel things out, but I've found you just have to jump in with both feet. If you want to talk football it's tough to find a lot of that in the TATF part of the forum you'll have to sift through some of the garbage around here, but there are some great fans here. Problem with Atlanta fans in general is that they aren't loyal. Hopefully we'll get that turned around, but if you wanna pull for the Birds I think you've selected the right time to not be one of those bandwagon guys. You picked a down time and will be here for the emergence of the birds (for really the first time since we've never gone back to back before) You'll be here for the falling of that as well as the setting up of a new dynasty (I hope).

There are some other great sites too, sounds like you want to talk draft...the #1 site for that other than here is nfldraftcountdown.com. Great site over there and other great Falcons fans, more pure football over there, but you won't find as many people there as you do here either. This is the epicenter for everything Falcons. Welcome aboard.

Don't do it man. Get out while you can:) If your going to watch the Falcons you have to be able to talk trash even when you lose. That is the key to being a Falcon Fan. It's easy to win, anyone can do it but, losing builds character. Sense of homour(Canadian spelling) helps also.

I hope so as well! That is sort of the whole idea behind my team search... i've always hated bandwagoners, so i'm not gonna go be Cowboys fan or (god forbid!) a Giants fan! ;)

I really do think that things are shaping up for this franchise. As i said earlier, the Lions have always been my true second team, but as long as Matt Millen is GM, theyre not going anywhere.

i guess the only bummer about picking this team is that i'll seldom get to see games, whether live or in person! but then again, who really knows, i'm graduating college this spring so i really don't know where i'll end up.

for the time being, consider me a Falcons fan!

Heh-welcome man. I've been a Falcon's fan since I started watching football...and I have HATED the Patsies...and I'm from Boston as well-lol
like rev jj?

Errr...if the Rev is from Boston-then yea...I guess so...lol

I'm hoping, now that my kid will be 5 this year, to restart hitting ATL at least once a year for a game...and he'll be hitting it with me starting this year. I'm pretty stoked :D
