BigQuent
I know there are plenty of guys here who want certain favorites, but lets look at it this way.... How long has it been since Atlanta has had an consistent Play Maker on Defense? Lets be honest D-hall talks to much to have the numbers he has, and maybe to be so young, however when at his best HE is a PLAY MAKER and the only one we really have next to JOHN ABRAHAM and maybe Mike Boley at times. I think drafting Vernon Gholston making him our middle linebacker, sending Keith back home to ROLB, and allowing Boley to use his speed on the blitz and coverage, would be unbelievable. My reason for this is guys go look at the names in free agency for offensive lineman. It is very deep. Smiley was there before, Floyd Womack, George Foster was there, Fabini was there, I mean there is serious talent. SO what do you think?
Mr. Offseason
this guy is a RE or an OLB in the 3-4 to rush the passer from that position, both of which he is well qualified to play.but you want to draft him to play MLB??thats a first. cwell1
what do I think?I think it's stupid to move a DE to MLB especially with the defense we're supposedly running this year.
GEORGIAfan
we are still missing a DT.i say Dorsey/Ellis , then have Tony Taylor in the middle( he is a Run Stuffer, and pretty good in coverage, because he has a nose for the ball) Stephen Nicholas at Will and Boley at Sam. somecut8
haha, another madden post. kind of like putting calvin pace at MLB or Jamaal Anderson at OLB. next thing you know, trey lewis will be our hard hitting safety.patience. mlb will be addressed next year when we draft either laurinitis or that dude from usc
prince213
Wrong!! Drafting him isn't improving the middle so I don't see that happening enless we get a DT in free agency.
atljbo
the only way i would want the incredible hulk is if we trade abe for a first round pick........and i dont want us to do that
JDaveG
GEORGIAfan (3/2/2008)we are still missing a DT.i say Dorsey/Ellis , then have Tony Taylor in the middle( he is a Run Stuffer, and pretty good in coverage, because he has a nose for the ball) Stephen Nicholas at Will and Boley at Sam.While I liked Taylor in the middle for our old defense, I wonder if he would fit in a modern Cover 2 scheme (and ASSuming we are, in fact, going to a Tampa 2 type scheme). If it's a Tampa 2 version, we'd need a Mike that can read the play and, if necessary, drop deep into coverage to divide the deep field into thirds. I'm not sure Taylor fits that mold. IF that's what we're doing, I don't see him fitting in. Frankly, Brooking may be a better fit in the middle in that sort of scheme, or we may go with a young speedburner.Again, not sure what Smith is planning for us, but if we go that route, I'm not sure Taylor's going to fill a Tampa 2 role. BigQuent
I like Tony taylor, but I believe he would not hold up through the entire season at Middle. I know what position VG played, however I saw how fast this kid was, and I also know he was the strongest(tied) at the combine, and two of the BIGGEST attributes for an inside linebacker consist of being strong and able to hold up, Tackle with force, and have that burst of speed to blitz when called on, and I believe he has all of the components to do it. he also said he would not mind making the switch, what ever he had to do to help his team. His 10 and 20 time were near the top, but his 40 time sucked. and he has a nose for the ball.

BigQuent
Thats my point we dont need pure X's and O's type guys, we need playmakers that can come on the field screw 1 2 and 3 go make the play, If you watch Bob Sanders at Safety this guy plays like a safety at times, comes up like a corner to cover at times, and runs up to the line like a linebacker he does it all this is the type of player we need and I think VG is a beast and can tear it up at Middle Linebacker who would want to run on that guy? Then we would force teams to the outside and through the air thats when we will have success we need PLAYMAKERS and he is one of the biggest(literally lol) that I have seen in a while
