Coach Smith quote:

Recommended Posts

"Besides being a quality football player, Michael Turner is a quality person," added Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith. "He is the type of player we are looking for to help build our football team. I m excited that he is joining the Atlanta Falcons."

We are building a team of guys that are top notch players with top notch character. No more fools who could care less about creating a winning franchise and are too caught up in their off field activities.

No more "Me first, team later" attitudes that just break down the whole team and ruin young players and their outlook on what matters.

This is a great day for us on many fronts and it looks like we are finally building a great franchise that we all can be proud of.

Outstanding-we need good people that are good players!!! Let's get rid of those who are marginal individuals and consider themselves the great players.

Not to be Debbie Downer. But this same montra has been chanted here for the last 7 years.

yeah... i like the idea but at the same time i had this same thought when i was reading this thread.

its not a bad idea, but lets see if we can build a team that is the opposite of style over substance this time, but still maintain a good character team.

Your right, this is nothing new. Year after year the front office manages to say all the right things but it really hasn't translated to creating a sound football team. Hopefully this year will be different.

I don't ever remember character being stressed like it has this off season.

It shows that they are getting guys for how they want this new team to be. They said they wanted to have a good team up the middle and have players with Character. Atleast they are going in the direction they said. I don't about anyone else but i was scared we would get Darren McFadden and there seems to be some Character problems example -------->(http://sportswrap.berecruited.com/2008/02/22/darren-mcfaddens-draft-value-may-be-dropping-due-to-character-issues/), I don't know the guy but we can't take the chance of having another top draft pick tear this team apart. I hope Thomas, Mike and Mr. Blank are commited to signing guys who are of good Character and is a good football player.

Randy Moss, T.O and several more high profiles players wanted to play in Atlanta but were perceived a poor character guys so we stayed away from them.

The Falcon Filter has been the common term used in the past describe players who did not meet Arthur's character standards.
