The Shaun Rogers situation with Cincy impacts us a bit.

With the Bengals no longer in possession of a DT, their focus probably goes back to the draft. We already know they are willing to give up multiple draft picks to secure the position. This puts them on our radar for a trade down if we are so inclined.

The way I see it:

MIA: Chris Long

STL: Jake Long

CIN f/ ATL: Glenn Dorsey

OAK: Darren McFadden

KC: Ryan Clady

NYJ: Vernon Gholston

NE: Keith Rivers or Leodis McKelvin

BAL: Matt Ryan

ATL: f/ CIN: Sedrick Ellis

I think Ellis could fall, and if we lose out on Jake Long, and are still concerned by Dorsey's injury, and we trade down, there is still a chance we could get amazing value. Ellis could be a great UT in this system... and he would be huge. If Trey Lewis comes back and plays like he did before he got hurt, or if we somehow can get Marcus Stroud, we will have all the pieces on the Dline to be a dominant cover 2.

I am not for trading down, unless the first 2 picks play out like that, but if they do and we could stockpile another second round pick, I would be all for it.

I think it would be Dorsey that falls because of the injury concerns. I don't see Ellis falling, he did too well at the combine & senior bowl to fall that much. But it's more likely Dorsey falls IMO.

it would be even better if Dorsey was the one waiting there at 9. I feel that he is a much better pick then Ellis anyway. Last year Alan Branch slipped because of the same type of injury concern. The difference between Dorsey and Branch tho is that Dorsey was much more productive. If Dorsey is going to slip to 9 and we happen to trade down... we would get elite value at 9 overall. It would be a huge steal.

Although as with my earlier post, I think most teams realize how special Dorsey is and won't let him slip that far.

Did you get an explanation of why that trade violated salary cap rules and was cancelled?

This is what their beat writer said:

"The reason wasn't clear, but the trade of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers from the Lions to the Bengals didn't happen Friday.

Theories as to why ranged from the league stepping in because the trade violated a salary-cap rule to one that the trade never was reported to the NFL office, leaving the Lions free to negotiate a deal with another team. Another potential explanation was faulty language in the trade that forced the NFL to void it.

The Bengals had no comment Friday night on the situation."
