g-dawg
is Dimitroff(GM) and Bus Cook(Turner's agent) going to the dinner? (of course this is rhetorical - no one knows).......When are they going to get the **** deal signed?????We are on 48 hours w/ no contract - the Dolphins might sign 6 more players before we get Michael Turner signed:PLet's get it on!!! Knight of God
g-dawg (3/1/2008)is Dimitroff(GM) and Bus Cook(Turner's agent) going to the dinner? I hope that its not Rhetorical, this would be a great sign. If this gets done I'd be a very proud fan...not saying that I'm not but this would make me forget last years mess ups in FO. I'd be very forgiving and support every other move. To me RB was the main problem even in '06.
g-dawg
another thought? How do you "woo" 3-4 different players at the same time? (Michael Turner, Maurice Williams, Von Hutchins, Ben Hartstock).......seems like that would be awkward......are they all going to dinner/game, etc..... scott24falcs
I think they're all going to dinner together, but I could be wrong. I wonder where they'll be going. Hardees?

doubletrouble21
michaelgee (3/1/2008)gritblitzer (3/1/2008)birdweiserrr (3/1/2008)Blank and his "dinner hostings" has a sickening feeling to it. I wish he'd keep his nose out of it.Why? Blank has a fairly decent record of closing the deal with free agents. Why take the guy (Blank) out of doing one of the things as an owner that he's accomplished at performing?Gritz,I found this post on the Chargers MB, contrary to what the haters portray Mr Blank as being meddlesome and inept, the word around the NFL is QUITE DIFFERENT.I thought this was a nice comment about Turner coming here and about AB.Pasted from the Chargers MB:quote: "Although we would all like to have had the planets somehow align so that Michael could remain a Charger, if we had to lose him, I am glad it is to a team like Atlanta for the following reasons: a) despite the Falcons' obvious problems of late, there are worse people to work for than Arthur Blank; again, despite their obvious problems, they also know (or at least knew) how to run the ball a little bit . . . a very good thing for Turner's prospects for Pro Bowl numbers; and c) being in the NFC, we won't see him often. I hate it when former Chargers come back to haunt them."So, this will give the Blank haters something to choke on don't you think?I think the legalities are being worked out, the signing is imminent, we will have won in FA, but HUGE this time. Kudos to Thomas Dimitroff. Again, look at this video of Turner, he is the stud RB we never had, always needed. Turner and Norwood will be an amazing pair of RB's. If Micchael Turner gets into a 1 on 1 in the secondary, look out dude, the steamroller is coming. Gritz, we get a huge winner in turner, and we avoid getting into a startup with an obviously complicated Run DMC. DMC sounds to be as wise as YKW. 3 pregnancies at the same time, you gotta be kidding me, nobody can be that wise? Well, I know one other guy who screwed himsself like that but he's in prison right now.Michael Turner will be the new FACE we needed, fans will align to support MT, we will win.GREAT post. UGA_DAWG46
Quality are better than quanity. So what if the dolphins sign 6 already.I think its a good thing Blank is taking the players out for dinner. He want them to feel like they're at home.
Dem Birds
It's not only about money like some of you think, granted money is the most important factor, but these guys are going to be picking up and moving to another city. Blank is a smart man, he's showing them the city they would be coming to, meeting the man that would be paying them, it's a smart business move. (Unless the city you are is Detriot, then you just pay the ##### out of them.)

Disco Bush
birdweiserrr (3/1/2008)Blank and his "dinner hostings" has a sickening feeling to it. I wish he'd keep his nose out of it.Anytime an organization has a big time negotiation going on, it is usually customary for the higher ups to discuss things over dinner. Why would this be a problem for you? Blank is trying to better his team, yet people like yourself see this as meddling. It is his team isn't? Would you give someone millions of dollars without trying to get to know them? Would you like it if someone just told you to sign the checks and mind your own business? Oh wait, it is his own business. Get a clue.
rcky_mtn_falcon
Blank has always shown complete class when it comes to bringing in new players Even Joey Harrington last year trying to sign him as a backup. His wife asked about the city and by the time they got back to their hotel room there was 5 or 6 books about the state and area. When Jimmy Williams was drafted he flew his entire family in on the private jet. He cares not just about the players but their families as well, and that makes a big difference. Those that want to criticize Blank can do so for some things, but caring about his players or potential players and making them feel at home shouldn't be what they complain about. swanlee
Being a Blank hater is about the most pointless thing you can do as a Falcons fan. He owns the team and can pretty much do what ever he wants. He is not going to fire himself and will probably own the team for quite a long time. It's an effort in complete futility to hate the man that spent 500-700 million on this team.Unlike The Smiths who only owned the team for a tax write off Blank actually gives a **** and wants to win and wants to help this city. The mistakes he has made so far as owner have been in an effort to improve this team. I'd rather someone TRY and fail then sit on their ##### like the Smiths did. That being said Blank's efforts on helping sign Free Agents that the Front Office wants is in no way a mistake and is a big plus for the team. We have already went to the playoffs twice with Blank as an owner. It's funny you bring up Vick cause it was The Smiths that allowed him to come here and he was dog fighting while The Smiths still owned the team.Complain all you want like a baby but hating Blank is 100% pointless you are not going to get the man to sell the team you might as well get used to him as the owner or be a fan of another team. Mr. Offseason
Agree, as long as it's the football people telling him who he should be taking to dinner, I'm ok with it.same here. its clear that blank isnt just pulling in random guys that he likes personally to have dinner with. these players were all targeted by TD and Smith, and that is why Blank is giving them the "wine and dine" treatment. not many people get out of this without signing a contract.im excited that we might get turner, even though my logic says we could just wait until the draft to get a RB. we have enough needs, though, that i cant complain about filling one of them before the draft. especially as a guy who makes a ton of mock drafts. :laugh:im almost more excited about maurice williams though. he would give us a good starting RT, then if we got Jake Long wed have our two bookends at LT and RT.
