etherdome
Surfing the net has been fun this am. I have checked out several boards and here are two rumors that, if true, could impact our FO's plans. 1 Derek Anderson to the Carolina Panthers for a first and a third. Totally unsubstantiated. If true, the Panthers are paying a steep price for this guy. If he truly fits our new Offensive scheme, I would give up D Hall for DA, but not more than that. 2 Michael Turner to Chicago. Turner is from Chicago, so this one may have legs. Too bad, Turner doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body, so he can carry the load for his new team for years to come. Turner is at least as good as J Stewart and R Mendenhall, so signing him would essentially be like adding a first rounder to the roster. I think that the initial targets of Josh Brown and Michael Turner make a lot of sense and point to a no nonsense FO. I expect to see us also add a free agent QB some time soon. A guy like Quinn Gray might work out well with the Falcons. D Anderson is a possible addition as well.
g-dawg
yes, I really hope we get Michael Turner but I highly doubt it.......if your Michael Turner, and you are choosing between Atlanta and Chicago - you are from Illinois and I would guess you might have grown up a Bears fan -well, you probably are going to be "biased" towards Bears anyway - plus the Bears were in SuperBowl one year ago..........if the money is the same, i highly doubt Michael Turner comes to Falcons...has it been confirmed that Michael Turner is coming for a visit? if so, then Blank/Dimitroff would need to get Turner signed before he leaves Flowery Branch... Mr. Hoopah!
He may be from chicago, but the bears are not a very good team anymore. They don't have a number one WR, they still have garbage at QB, they're O-line isn't very good anymore, and the defense has not played nearly as well as it has in years past. If TD can convince Turner that he is turning the falcons into a contender I think we have just as equal of a shot as chicago in landing him. Just cause they went to a super bowl a few years ago means nothing, they're a different team now.

I think if we can just get him here for a visit, we have a decent shot to sign him. AB can be very persuasive, and hopefully TD can sell him on the fact that he has a plan in place to get this team back in contention soon, and that Turner would be a big factor in the plan. Xnex
I heard yesterday that Lovie Smith was still determined to give Cedric Benson another shot at being the featured back up in Chicago. I hope that is the case and the Bears don't really pursue Turner.

somecut8
If anybody, get Josh Brown. Turner may be good, but we can draft a good powerback, and he'll probably cost a lot because other teams want him too.

xcomm
I think the only way we get Turner is to make him an offer where he won't go to visit Chicago. Going home may kill it for us.

jidady
Andy (2/29/2008)Please give us some reasoning why we should not go after turnerThe concerns are two-fold. The first is that Turner' s reputation in the NFL has been built upon running behind one of the best lines in football and as a role playing backup to LT. NFL history is littered with examples of guys like this not being able to carry the load when their role expands. Oakland paid Lamont Jordan $27.5 million to have one good season and several heartbreaking ones. That's the most recent example. You can argue Turner is better, but Jordan's fans made the same arguments to me when that contract was signed back in the day. Best case scenario for Turner is a year like Chester Taylor had and Minnesota was so impressed by that they drafted Adrian Peterson. The second is the cap space such a signing ties up. Turner has been a fine backup RB in the NFL. arguably the best in the league. He has never shown he can be an every down back, however, making him no different from a player we could draft. Let's say we take a RB with our #48 overall selection. That player was guaranteed only $1.72 million in 2007. At the most, the player would be guaranteed $1.8 million this year. Meanwhile, Turner's guarantees will be at least a factor of six above that if not much more. If we are going to splurge so much cap space for a RB, I want the sure thing in McFadden. If we are not, we shouldn't make a splashy free agency acquisition. We should draft a much cheaper solution. RB is not a spot I like us addressing in free agency, particularly not for the money Turner will cost. This is my opinion, one I expect that will be in the minority since most of us just want the Falcons to do something positive for once. wren
Not to hijack, but if people are going to have religious signatures at all period, he should get to keep his signature.Remember all it is is one person's opinion. That signature doesn't make Jesus not exist or any less important. At the end of the day all it is, is one person's opinion.Back to the topic at hand. I think it would be nice to get Turner, NFL experience know how to pass block, catch and read blocks at this level. And it will allow us to spend picks on the Offensive and Defensive Line. IHateThe Cowboys!
Turner scares me, not sure he is that good. He is playing behind the best line and best RB in the league. He does do well, but let's just not over pay him or give him a deal more than 4 years. And for the Signature...i didn't not find it offensive, cause I know some people are just going for shock value and should be ignored. I am of the opposing viewpoint of the owner of said sig and I thought it was funny. "My dad gave you all a sense of humor use it or lose it!" -Jesus. Also plenty of "I am a christian and better than you" sigs on this board. Maybe it was just a response to those. Relax.

Last time I checked he was a un-drafted rookie. As far our o-line is concerned I think we're going to have one of the bigger o-lines in football after this draft.
