A little common sense narrows down our top pick

We won't go Ryan because he is not worth a top 5 pick. TD knows this and so does the rest of the league. TD also knows that no QB will succeed with our O until the OL is revamped. If Miami passes him up at 1(likely), he will fall out of the first 5 picks.

We won't go with Mcfadden due to the "character issues." At #3 Blank will balk at paying 20mill in guarantees.

We won't go Chris Long. We have two 1st round picks and a lot of money invested in Abe and Jamaal. We also have a very good back up in Chauncey Davis. Remember TD's "draft for need philosophy."

Because of this, I believe the number one slot on our board belongs to Dorsey. Ellis and Jake Long round out the top 3.

A trade down is definitely possible, but unlikely IMO. It will cost our trade partner too much and TD knows that he will be giving up a desperately needed franchise OT/DT if he pulls the trigger.

No way is Matt Ryan a top five pick. He doesn't deserve the money to sit for at least two seasons. Mcfadden can make an immediate impact. Or go out and get J. Jones or M. Turner.
y did u just say julious jones? hes like a scat back which we have and we would have a faster one than him...hes just another dunn

I am still waiting for the common sense part............

I still can not figure out why people on this board are against Matt Ryan, when just about every scout in the country believes he is a top 3 pick.

No, a lot of draft "experts" think he is a Top 3 pick. I bet a lot of real SCOUTSfeel very differently.

L. Rover,

I know a lot of scouts and other draft experts are on the Matt Ryan Bandwagon, but I just cant say I am. I was not very impressed with his season this year, and I think some of his "claim to fame" moments (for instance the virginia tech game) were far less... substantial than the media and his supporters have portrayed them to be. I personally have a huge problem with his lack of arm strength and his proficiency for throwing interceptions due to his compensation in his mechanics to add more distance to his throws. as he adds more distance, they become much more innacurrate which explains the high interception total (10 of his first 14 were when he was throwing downfield). In a vertical offense I just dont think that selection makes any sense. What that does say, though, is that he was quite efficient in his short-intermediate passing game, and that makes me think he would be a PERFECT fit for the West Coast Offense. As he is coached, watches tons of film and learns to make better decisions, I think that more of you will realize that he could be a very proficient QB in the West Coast. I know I'm hard on him at times, but that is in regard to how he fits in our vertical style of offense. I don't know what kind of system the Miami Dolphins run, but if they run the West Coast (I am under the impression they run a more vertical offense like we do though) then I could see him making sense at #1. Personally I dont think it makes a lot of sense, but it would be a good fit and I think as that offensive line is upgraded that he could prove himself worthy of higher consideration than lots of this board would give him. However, if they run a vertical offense and they try and get him to throw long more often than he should, I think they will see that interception trend continue and he will be heavily criticized. Then Mayock will probably blame the Dolphins for not changing their offense for Matt Ryan and continue to hype him up and make the Dolphins his least favorite team.

But honestly, I just think he is a horrible fit for our offense, so for that reason I certainly hope we don't pick him. But I agree, this board is very hard on him. But considering this is a board of Falcons Fans and he doesn't fit the offense we run, I can't say I disagree with them.

I am by no means on the Ryan bandwagon, I just simply find it humorous that everyone on this board seems to know that Ryan is a bust. I think we can get better value at #3, but if TD thinks he is the guy, then we will have to roll with it.

But scouts do love him, and it may just be his potential, but there has to be something said for an almost unanimous support as a top 5 pick. I just don't want to hear the b#$%*ing if we do end up drafting him.......

Does anyone really know if a draft pick will be the next great superstar? I think he's good but he won't do anything until we get our OL fixed. I think they're will be some good QBs available later if we decide to wait. OL and DL is the way to go.
