If Falcons were to trade with Jags for Marcus Stroud, DT

If you were Thomas Dimitroff(GM of Atlanta Falcons), would you be interested in Marcus Stroud? and, if so, what would you be willing to give up(assuming a draft pick) to get Marcus? I now Marcus has had some injury history and failed a steroid test, so he does have some warts - but when healthy, he is a talented player.

Whaddya think?

I think I would only give up a 4th rounder for several reasons:

1) something is up w/ Stroud if Jags willing to trade him

2) Stroud will cost a lot of $$$-much more than a draft pick not in 1st round

3) failed drug test(don't know details but think it was steroids)

4) injury history

That is too many negatives to give up a high draft pick.....I would love to have him, but only on the cheap.....

Guys.

We're rebuilding.

We're trying to get younger and cheaper.

Trading a pick for a DT that has years of abuse is going in the wrong direction.

you dont have to rebuild at every position on the field, therefore will leave us with inexperienced players and it will be a worse season then last year..and yes it can get worse as in only winning 1,2,or 3 games worse...

I would say a 4th, maybe a 3rd. You have to remember the Pats got Moss for a 4th.

It really bothers me that everyone uses the "Moss for a 4th" excuse. He was dealt for a 4th rounder because he wanted out of Oakland and was a huge distraction day in and day out. Not only that but his play indicated that he couldn't ball anymore. You guys do know that they gave up a 2nd round pick for Welker right? I never hear anyone mention that.....

lol @ 3rd round pick..

This guy just had microfracture surgery last year... 2 ankle injuries back to back, I'd be suprised if he can pass a physical at this point. Now I must admit when healthy, Stroud is a **** of a player but the key word WHEN.

I wouldnt be suprised if Stroud was released and not traded.

I think the rate for players has changed over the last few years. Didn't Stroud end the year on IR? Some kind of knee injury or something like that. Wrong side of 30 and an injury, 4th round at very best. His base salaries are 5, 5.5 and 6 million over the next 3 seasons.

It appears as if we are going young, if thats the case, why would we bring in a guy that is

going to be 30 when the season starts and command that kind of money? We could lock D. Hall up for that type of money.

uggh! i knew he had some injuries but that above is really ugly if true.....i'm not too worried either way - nobody should be more in tune with Marcus Stroud as far as his health, character, playing ability, etc. more than Mike Smith and the Falcons D-Line coach....

If we could trade for stroud using a 4th round pick i would deffiently take that

i would then be tempted to trade down with the cowboys for their #22, #28 and marion barber

#3=2200

#22=780

#28=660

#22 + #28= 1440

2200-1440=760

That means barber is valued as a #23 pick

Then i would trade Hall to the giants for #31 and a 3rd Rounder

i would then draft accordingly

#22-Branden Albert OG

#28-Kenny Phillips FS

#31-Carl Nicks OT

2nd Round- Brian Brohm QB

2nd Round- Pat Sims DT

3rd Round- Curtis Lofton MLB

3rd Round- John Greco OT

3rd Round-Zack Bowman CB

4th Round-Jermichael Finley TE

Outside of some recent injury problems, I don't think that anyone can make an argument that Stroud is not a top 5-8 DT in the Leauge right now, and he is obviously familiar with the defensive staff and the scheme they will be employing. Oh yeah, and he's a homer, so there is always that (often underconsidered) financial aspect of bringing a few more butts to the abundance of empty seats the Dome is sure to see next year, based purely on the 'shock value' of bringing in a NFL star from the home state.
