scott hartley
I'm just not sure about putting a big old back on turf and running up the miles. It wasn't the best idea for jamal anderson, t.j. duckett, etc.. I know we have new field turf but still. Domes are about speed, that's the only reason I may want Dmac over Mendy. isproab
Mendenhall is a combination back. He plays with speed and power. He is not Duckett or Anderson. Those guys were always "big" first. Jamal started out as a FB, Duckett came to Michigan State as a LB. Mendenhall is way more athletic and lighter on his feet. Illinoise plays on turf. I don't think surface is a problem in the NFL any longer.
1989Fan
I think DMC would have been perfect in 04-06 here. Not so much now. He wont fit the scheme as well as the ZBS. I just see him having alot of issues running here w/o a DOMINATING line. He goes down on contact and we need a guy who can make yards when our OL breaks down. Neither one of themhas a calf. The shuttle is very good indicator of being able torun inside and bounce off people and keep going. So I like thelooks of Mendenhall as a complimentary back to Norwood. Ifwe could get Marion Barber in a trade he would be another goodguy to split carries with Norwood.
scott hartley
Sounds good. I just keep seeing visions of Anderson blowing his knees out, Vick breaking his leg, etc.. Big backs aren't always the healthiest or the longest lasting.
