SAMUEL SAID TO BE A "DONE DEAL" IN NEW ORLEANS

There's increasing chatter in league circles that the Saints have worked out a deal with cornerback Asante Samuel.

Yeah, it's tampering. But no one seems to care about that.

Samuel supposedly is looking for a contract with an average value in excess of $10 million per year.

2 reasons why this is good news

1.The saints is making a huge mistake...They are about to pay a really great cover 2 corner 10 year $100 million...they have players like Marques Colston(a restricted freeagent next season) and DE Will Smith (can void his contract after next season) is looking for big contracts as we speak

2. With Asante Samuel off the Markett, more teams that feel that they are contenders like Giants,Redskins,Titans,Lions and more will focus on d-hall if its not already a deal worked out...

My boy from draft daddy told me that the news about shaun rogers is not true...the lions does not have a trade worked out with the broncos....he told me that the Lions are looking for a second round pick or a high third pick...he said his source with the lions said that the falcons is one of the main players for rogers

another thing that i found

Trades must wait a week

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some of you have asked how quickly the Giants' potential trade for DeAngelo Hall would go down if it's going to happen. The answer: No quicker than next Friday.

The 2008 league year doesn't begin until that day -- Feb. 29. That's when free agency starts and it's also when the trade blackout period, which began with the Oct. 16 trade deadline, will be lifted.

Should be an interesting week.

I'd like to know where the notion that Samuel is a Cover 2 CB came from?

I have seem him play a ton, and I have seen him excel and make plays in tight man coverage time and time again... and every Pats fan I talk to agrees with that assesment.

Also, signing Samuel will not kill our cap... we have plantly of it, and we are set to release some higher priced injured and older vets this year and next. On top of that, the cap seems to grow by 7-10 million ever year... and Samuel will never see the better part of a huge deal like that awyway.

And before the overrated comments come flowing in... he is considered by nearly everyone (including Champ Bailey himself) to be the 2nd best CB in the NFL after Champ.

I don't know why a rebuilding team would trade a draft pick for a vet DT with attitude and weight problems. It just doesn't make sense. But I am starting to feel that we were really hasty in releasing Coleman and Alge. If Rogers is gonna bring a high third, then those two still probably had some trade value.

I'm sorry but admiting defeat to the aints is a no-no.

I do agree that they are overpaying him though. Asante Samuel will become like all the other ex-patriot players. He is a product of the system they are running in NE.

Yes he may have some highlights to show for it, but don't forget that the patriots run a defense that pass rushes pretty well.

If the ain'ts can pass rush half as well as the patriots, then maybel samuel will produce, but I wouldn't bet on it.

playing against asante 2 times a year is not good news..

A small cover 2 corner who has benefited from a great New England defense, and is about to be overpaid by a divisional rival, i like that. With that being said i do think Samuel is a good corner with a knack for making big plays (INT's). But i don't consider him on Trufant, Asomugho(was that right??), Bailey etc's. level.

The Saints are going to need alot more than Samuels to fix that Defense. They make the Bengals look 'stout'.

you're crazy if you think he's considered the second best corner in the league, and if you don't know where people get the "cover 2 corner" from, you apparently don't visit many websites nor read scouting reports; with that being said, if you just watch NFL live and listen to Trey Wingo for all your inside information, than your assessment may be true that "everyone thinks he's the second best corner"

however, you're an idiot

Makes since. We could definitely hold out for higher picks. Samuels will set the bar so let's wait and see. Teams will come calling. Give them time.
