halsey
and yes, I know some of you will say "The Falcons don't need them! They already are set at DE!!"That's not the point. I'm simply asking who will be the better NFL player. To me it seems like a toss up right now. Long is probably more polished and should have an easy transition into the NFL because he's grown up around the NFL and played more college football, but Gholston seems to be the better athlete. JRob215
GMs that like athletes will take Gholston, but those that like high-motor players will take Chris Long.
Serge Storms
Long is better by a long shot.

halsey
grendel (2/26/2008)halsey (2/26/2008)grendel (2/26/2008)I'm still worried that Gholston is going to get busted for 'roidsWhy?Look at him! Guys who weigh 260 lbs don't do 37 reps of the 225 bar!Wewll, actually he weighs closer to 270, but yeah, that's a lot of reps for a DE/OLB. Maybe he does roids and maybe so do a lot more players than we know about. I'm not sure I want to know how many players in the NFL juice. aveboogie2
Long is only better at this point because he's a senior, vs. Gholston being a junior.
halsey
I just looked it up. They both graduated HS the same year and started college in 2004. Long probably didn't have the same level of athletes to compete with for playing time so was able tio get on the field sooner. Long played some as a freshman and Gholston redshirted. Lord Sarcomere
Vernon has the hugest arms you will ever see in your life.
Lord Sarcomere
you see what I mean? Gholston is on top, Pittman is on the bottom.
blunttokinplaymaker
Bench reps are representative of chest and back core strength, not arms (biceps) so those pictures dont really show us anything.
Norwood32
Don't they get tested? LMFAO @ the pic with Bush.
Kayoh
Anybody who says Vernon Gholston has probably never seen Chris Long(or either one of them) play. Chris Long is the better player by far. He's a good-to-great athlete, but he'll outwork Vernon Gholston in 99 out of every 100 snaps. And that's only because the 100th snap is the one where his coach feels obligated to pull him out at risk of him being overworked.
iDash
I would Make Gholston a Rover LBer, he can go anywhere he feels that he can get to the backfield the fastest.

Mr. Offseason
grendel (2/26/2008)I'm still worried that Gholston is going to get busted for 'roidsi was going to say the same EXACT thing man.he looks like he could juice, which really sucks because if that was natural and from hard work he would be one of the biggest freaks of nature ever. but i thought that about merriman too and look what happened with that...im just skeptical is all. harvey raised my eyebrows a bit too, he didnt look 291 at ALL. wasnt he listed at 255 or so during the season? thats 30-40 pounds of weight he put on, and that seems hard to believe. hornsmd
I will Gholston for 1 reason. He will fit into 3-4 scheme as a LB. Gholston is a Freak with a great first step. He will be like Merriman and Ware. I do think that Long is the better guy against the run though.
goosedaddy70
I am starting to believe that Chris Long is the best player in the Draft. It may not be a bad idea to draft this guy if he is available and use him however he best suits our defense.
1989Fan
Gholston will put up gaudy numbers as a 3-4 rush OLB. He will impact the game faster than Long......as long as he isnt suspended for the substance abuse policy.Like another said, Gholston is the next Ware, Merriman OLB phenom. aveboogie2
Why assume he's on steriods?Maybe he just worked harder in the weight room than anyone else, including Long?
Serge Storms
Long got 14 sacks, 19 TFL's, and 9 passes defended, as a 3-4 defensive end.

The human body rarely looks like that without man made help. Working harder doesnt make the body vary that much from everybody else.
