Why is everyone freaking over the draft?

I have read posts by fans calling Blank and TD idiots for rumors about what they might do.

From what I can tell, with our #3 pick we will either take the consensus best QB (Ryan), the consensus best RD (McFadden), the consensus best offensive lineman (Long) or the consensus best defensive lineman (Dorsey). What's not to like? This is the REWARD for having to put up with a tough year. I can see no downside (other than cost) to having any of these guys. I can't wait for the draft and can't see myself disappointed by any of these choices.

I dont understand the fact that so many people dont think Ryan is going to be a good QB. Honestly, none of us know yet. My point, though, is all of the experts who do this for a living have him as either the best player or at least in the top 5. These people get paid to do this for a living and know a whole lot more about it than any of us sitting behind a computer typing our opinions. Like I said, I dont know if he is going to be a good QB or not, but I trust the experts and our FO more than I do the people on this board.

Experts also had Ryan Leaf over Manning. Look, the guy had 19 INT's last year. That should be enough to say "NOT TOP 10 MATERIAL!!! HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!!" To big of a risk to pay him 50-60million dude.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but pretty much everyone I've read that analyzes talent for a living has Ryan as top-rated QB in 2008 draft. They could all be wrong, but I think we could do much worse. Either way, we will have Redman, Harrington or Shockley for most of 2008 as the starter.

Still would be very upset and confused if we spent that type of money on him. It seems as though people are pushing him for his looks or something. My opinion or not it doesn't matter, he's an extremely unsafe pick!

Ryan sucks, thats whats not to like. He is garbage and he is the only player in the draft or FA that I REALLY don't want. Thank you.

There you go holding back again... let it out man... let it out...

esmith, not sure how long you read the boards before you signed up, but this is probably relatively normal for this time of year. Not to mention, bloodz has got a good point. They kinda can't afford to screw this up, and we've got brand new leadership. I'm just hoping they do an outstanding job so all the naysayers will STFU.

True, but we will have one of the three. Can't see a free agent QB coming in as a starter this year.
Oh shoot man! I didn't see that you're a noob. Welcome. LOL. Okay, he calls me on my false meaness all of the time. In truth I wouold support Ryan, but with a very wary and watchful eye. Anytime he threw a pick I'd yell, "I told you ***holes! I told ya!" I'm the very definition of a fan. Somewhat crazed. I love so many other guys at the top slot, Ryan is a boring and sucky pick at #3 to me...Come season start though I'd punch a Panty-Fan in the head for talking against him.

Welcome to the boards, you came at a crazy time. Most of us know each other (MB wise) and kinda understand one another. Once again welcome.

Ryan would wet us back light years.

The philosophy I'd use for this draft is the same as I'd use for my fantasy team. There's just not a big enough gap in what you'd get for Ryan at the #3 pick as what you'd get for any of the second tier QB's (Henne or Flacco). I'm not sure that the same is not true for the OT's in this draft....is Long that much better than the other 5 at the top? The 2 DT's (Ellis and Dorsey) stand out for me as begin much better than the rest of the DL's in this draft, so I'd go after one of of them at #3 and then pick up a OT in the top of the second round and a QB with our second pick in the 2nd round.

Hopefully Hall with be gone and we'll have more flexibility to get the QB we want at that pick or get a top notch OT with that pick and a running back with our second pick in the 2nd round

esmith,

you are right that Matt Ryan is top-rated QB in draft - but, by itself - that means nothing. In other words, some years the top of the QB class just is not great.

i.e.

Tim Couch

Alex Smith

David Carr

what do all of the above have in common - each one went #1 overall in a draft class. The second thing is all will be selling life, health, car, home and liability insurance in the next three years.
