The Falcosn/DeAngelo Hall Situation

Recommended Posts

I am clearly on the pursue a trade with DeAngelo Hall side of the

argument now.

1) I noted that DeAngelo Hall insisted our front office to agree not

to franchise him after the season, so that means he must not have

a Patrick Kearney type escape clause in his contract.

2) There are approximately seven teams that have shown substantial

interest, include at least three teams from the NFC East who also don't want

him playing for their division rival.

3) He has indicated that he might sit out and also now that he doesn't

wish to remain here.

4) If he was traded, with the possibility of having to wait more two seasons or

more to cash in within free agency, he'd probably be interested in a long

term deal with one of the trade partners.

5) If Michael Boley isn't extended this offseason and before the conclusion of

this season and signs a one-year RFA tender, we can't franchise both in 2009,

so if we feel we want to keep Michael Boley after this season, trading Hall

might also make sense.

6) With an additional draft pick, we could conceivably pick up someone like

Jonathan Stewart, Brian Brohm, Rashard Mendenhall, Chris Williams, Kenny Phillips,

or another of very top cornerback prospects like Leodis McKelvin, Mike Jenkins,

Dominique Rogers-Cromartie. or Aquib Talib. Maybe even Ryan Clady or Keith Rivers.

7) Capwise it would seem to make sense as well and I think it makes the June 1

cuts less painful as well.

I feel pretty good about trading him too. His value to us will be diminished because of the zone style of defense we will be playing. He will not be worth the money we would have to pay to retain him. He has shown no indication that he will ever change his me-first attitude and out-of-control emotions. And I think the Skins/Cowboys/Giants will bid this up pretty good. The skins were willing to give up a lottery pick for Lance Briggs last year. Getting their 1st and 3rd seems very realistic to me. The cowboys may also suprise us with an outstanding offer (Jerry already requested permission to talk numbers with Hall's agent).

max, all really good points.

Myself, if we could get another 1st round pick in this draft, I would actually

prefer another pick in the 2009 draft. The past couple of years where we've

had extra 1st day picks, and that has been really nice.

After this season (2009), Babineaux, Forney, Harrington, Jenkins, Milloy and possibibly

Michael Boley will be Unrestricted Free Agents.

Not to mention, Keith Brooking, Jimmy Williams, Roddy White, DJ Shockley,

Quinn Ojinnaka, Jerious Norwood, Adam Jennings, Brian Finneran in (2010).

Forney - Gone

Babs - Signed as backup UT

Harrington - Gone

Jenkins - Gone, only if he keeps paying inconsistently and no toughness.

Milloy - Gone

Boley - Will reach long term Deal

Keith Brooking - Gone

Jimmy Williams - Has to show me something this year or gone

Roddy WHite - Can you say long term?

Shock - GOne

Ojinnaka - Liability at LT and too soft...gone

Adam Jennings - Another guy that has to show me something

Finn - Old and Knees, gone

I think Brian Finneran can go ahead and leave now. I have always felt he was incredibly overrated by this board, and the only reason he was able to stay in the NFL was because Michael Vick was comfortable with him. Let him go now.

As for Jimmy Williams, DJ Shockley, and Quinn Ojinaka, these are three guys I still have hope for, especially Jimmy Williams. I really feel like he is getting thrown under the bus, having essentially played two rookie seasons (one at CB, the other at FS). What is even more unfortunate is that he may move back to CB, and be forced to start all over. I just hope he gets the patience he deserves, because I really feel like he is a great player.

I also don't understand how you can throw in the towel on DJ Shockley yet, either. He hasn't had the opportunity to show us anything yet. I am really anxious to see how he comes back from injury, because I really feel like this could have been a blessing in disguise, as he will come back fresh and matured, and have the opportunity to be further groomed into a decent QB. (and for the record, NO, I am not a UGA fan)

I can tell in your mock.:D

I am not really USC homer, either, I just have a great appreciation for their talent, and most notably, their depth. In my mock I chose Thomas Williams & Drew Radovich because they both can play all types of their respective positions (LB & OL). Having great talent at those depth positions is a must for a great team.(As for Chauncey Washington, he is a great talent who has had some injury concerns, could be a great sleeper)

as much as i hate to say this, i would trade him now too. hes my favorite player, but its time for us to go our seperate ways. i doubt wed pay him what he wants anyways.

so, shop him and get very good value for him TD, i want a mid 1st round pick (detroit?) or equal value to that, we could do a lot of damage if we got a late first and a late 2nd for him also, but if we got detroits pick we could definately go with Brohm or Jonathan Stewart, both of which would be great picks there. or even jeff otah to just completely solidify the offensive tackle position (imagine our OTs being Ryan Clady and Jeff Otah!).

he could give us a lot of options, but if we get a mid 1st rounder id want brohm with it, no question.
