Protesters Storm U.S. Embassy in Serbia and Set Fire Over Kosovo IndependenceThursday, February 21, 2008

DEVELOPING STORY ...

Rioters stormed the U.S. embassy in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday and started a fire in protest of Kosovo's declaration of independence earlier this week.

Masked attackers broke into the building, which has been closed this week, and tried to throw furniture from an office. A blaze broke out inside one of the offices. The neighboring Croatian Embassy also was attacked by the same group.

Crowds outside cheered and chanted, egging the demonstrators on as they stormed the embassy, which was closed at the time and had no police guarding it, Reuters reported.

Riot police drove armored jeeps down the street and fired tear gas to clear the crowd.

U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack on Thursday urged the Serbian government to protect the U.S. Embassy. He said the U.S. ambassador was at his home and was in contact with U.S. officials

I do blame the Serbs ultra-conservatives, who not only managed to create Europes only war in the last 60 years but still refuse to accept the reality after the end of the Serb dominated Milosovij regime. It´s a real shame that the country probably will not have a chance to join the EU as long as the ultra-conservatives have something to say in Serbia

I don't blame the Serbs. Our illegal actions have led to a breakdown of their country and will only encourage dissident groups to rebel against their lawful government the world over.

What in God's name are you on?

The Serbs committed genocide against countless Bosnians. The murders were horrific. Oh that's right. Genocide against Muslims must be okay with you. Or maybe since it's not Muslims behaving as savages, this isn't a big deal.

Typical ignorant bias.
