Mcfadden will not run the 40 at the combine and the Dolphins will release Zach Thomas

Recommended Posts

Albert Breer of the Dallas Morning News reports that Darren McFadden won't run at the NFL combine. He's unsure whether he'll do other physical activities.

Not a huge surprise, although many recent top backs (Adrian Peterson and Ronnie Brown) have participated. A few teams may prefer Reshard Mendenhall to McFadden in the draft, but it would still be a surprise if McFadden fell far in the top ten.

FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that the Dolphins will release Zach Thomas Thursday.

Truly a new era beginning in Miami, but Thomas doesn't fit the Bill Parcells mold of big linebackers. Thomas can still play productive football, but he's turning 34 years old and has concussion problems with a bloated salary. He plans to seek work elsewhere, and should find takers quickly.

so what do you guys think

Zach is way to injury prone

McFadden on the other hand, thats his choice to make if this was true, it could hurt him in the nfl draft.

Ok...you guys can use the old thing....dude was moses secretary... but yooo u cant say this man is injury prone and this is his first time really being injured...,then his concussion happened off the field in a car accident ..before this game zach has missed 12 games in 11 years....thats almost one game a year...so please dont use the injury prone thing

does not want to run the 40?? thats crazy, and ill just say NEXT.

Why do people think the 40 is so important? Do you really think players keep the same speed as their 40's?

no, but its like ryan missing the senior bowl. you have a chance to imporve your draft position, but instead you dont take the chance. it seems like he is hiding something.

Ryan missing the senior bowl still didn't do damage to his stock, he is still projected as a top 5..makes me sick if we draft him.

of course they will not run at the same speed in full pads that they do wearing shorts. but the 40 at the combine is the best way to compare players' speed under the same conditions. even if he runs the 40 on his pro day or a private workout, it could be a different track surface which does affect the times. any prospect with confidence in himself should be fully participating in the combine events, unless they have an injury. if he doesn't run at the combine, well then, why should a NFL scout have confidence in a guy who does not believe in himself

Until we know the reason why hes not doing it, people shouldn't judge.

McFadden has nothing to gain by running. All he can do is hurt himself by running poorly. Why would anyone want to run and risk losing future money?

I can understand this logic for not wanting to play in the Senior Bowl, but this is just a 40 yard dash. How is he going to run it poorly? Why is he scared of running it poorly? Or maybe he is just lazy and does not want to train for it.

Zach Thomas, who has more tackles than any linebacker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will be released by the Miami Dolphins, a league source said Thursday afternoon.

The Dolphins' decision to release Zach Thomas comes as no surprise given the regime change in Miami, coupled with concerns over Thomas' age and injuries., writes Mike Sando. Hashmarks

The Dolphins had no comment, but the source said the official move was likely to come Thursday afternoon. A fifth-round pick in 1996, Thomas has spent 11 seasons with the Dolphins, recording more than 1,500 tackles.

But Thomas' age and salary worked against him as the Dolphins begin a major rebuilding process with Bill Parcells running the front office and Tony Sparano taking over as coach. Thomas will turn 35 in September and was scheduled to make $5.65 million in base salary in 2008.

Thomas has been selected to seven Pro Bowls and is one of only three players to record 100 tackles in each of his first 10 seasons. Speculation about Thomas' future first began as the Dolphins struggled through a 1-15 season.

The source said retirement is a possibility and Thomas will play again only if he can join a team that he views as having a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl.

Pat Yasinskas covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

Dont think hes comming here anytime soon

so what do you guys think

I highly doubt Thomas will get cut. He is the most productive Lb in Dolphins history, the best MLB Parcells has ever had he will be in the HOF, and the fans will be pissed.

If that does happen though he will be picked up very quickly

We already got Dolphins staff, why should we go after their cast aways anyways?

I agree! We have our own junk to pick through. The next man's junk is just that, JUNK!

Thomas is too small to play the MLB like we need. He was a fighter for his size and good for a 3-4 scheme. It may work out for him in New England. They are the new Dolphins Rehab Center.
