Online criminal history check

Recommended Posts

I would be very careful of using a non government site. Their data could be very corrupt.

As mookie6927 said most states are putting sex offender data on line. Otherwise check the jail systems and county clerks where he has lived in the past. Some are on line and some aren't.

like someone mentioned earlier, databases like Intelius or Accurint could get the info you're looking for, but it costs $. (anywhere from like $7 for a basic contact info verification to like $40 for full criminal history)

and like someone else mentioned earlier, criminal history is a matter of public record. call the court clerk in the counties he's lived in. they don't have to tell you anything over the phone (they have computers you can check in-person), but they usually will.

3rd option (and the most expensive)- hire a private investigator.

Most of the sites I've checked seem a little shady. Anyone know of a good site?

p.s.

Because I'm sure you're wondering why....My sis want's to run 1 on her ex-husband.

Shoot they are legit, why you think lots of buisnesses use them? There are three kinds of searchs, the light search, which is like a felony check, it looks thru just to see if any felonies pop up. Most buisnesses do this, its also the cheapest. Next go thru state records and pull all that. Little more money. The most expensive is the 3rd I've seen them for like $79. This is the anal cavity search, they go thru federal, state and county records. If your sister wants to know EVERYTHING about his azz since he was born. Try that. ;) Intelelius like somebody said and theres also U.S. search.

Although I tend to stay out of discussions like these I have to say it:

These databases are sick and have to be forbidden !

Seriously how can you allow companies to have access to private data ?

Why can nearly everybody access everyones background ?

I can only tell from the german criminal law and once you´ve over with your jail time you´re a citizen like everyone else again - you have paid for your crimes and you will be considered resocialised and therefore your crimes should not be held against you.

Only exception I know:

If a company wants to check someone because they need a background check ( like security companies ) they can ask the applicant for a police clearance certificate but they can NEVER get it themself from the police.

Its not allowed here in germany to make criminal records available for everyone ( individual privacy laws ) I dont see anything wrong with it.

Why should a past which you have paid / served for be the end of your privacy and the end of your future ?

Those databases can ruin lives - and i as a programmer of databases i can tell you how many incorrect data is stored everyday. Those incorrect data can be created by incorrect user input up to software bugs and once you´re on the list you´ve got two problems:

1. you have to know that you are on the list

( how can you know that you´re on it when you´re innocent ? )

2. you have to get off it

( since when do you have to prove your innocence ???? )

Tell me - why is there any need to dig in someones history - exception maybe sexual offender - but is there any OTHER reason to throw around everyones mistakes into the public and isn´t it perverted to make money of it ?

In my eyes there companies who run those databases arent any better than the yellow press - living by gossip only that this gossip can ruin lives.

talking about

"you have nothing to hide so you have nothing to fear" ????????????????????????????

This argument is being used by our gouverment to justify the intrusion in our privacy even though its against our laws.

btw:

I have no criminal record - only if you count speeding ;)

criminal records is one thing- i think an employer has a right to know if their potential hire has committed crimes.

the thing that bothers me is personal info. you can go on lexis-nexis martindale-hubbel (to their credit, they're somewhat restrictive about who gets access and it costs a good amount.) and find out EVERYTHING about people. if you ever paid a bill in your name, it's in there and it shows your address, your assets, your family members' addresses, your neighbors' addresses, your credit history, EVERYTHING. the only way to not show up on there is to either live like a hermit and/or put everything in other peoples' names, which is increasingly impossible in our credit-based (i.e. debt) system.
