What is it about having an Experienced Head Coach?

Recommended Posts

There are so many people on here who talk about they want an experienced coach to take over for this team? Why? Do you think having a Bill Cowher or Marty is going to make ua playoof contenders next year just because of their experience? If I recall, the coaches that we looked at with prior NFL head coaching experience have 1 Superbowl championship between them, and it wasn't like this happend in 3 years. It took close to a decade if not more before this occured. Experience is an important thing to have true, but it's not the only thing that will lead to success.

I've noticed a few on here upset because they don't know who this Mike Smith is in relation to the other people that were spoken to coaches we could bring in. A great leader is not always known by his name but by the product he produces. We need more than a great football mind. Lets not forget this is a job for some of these players and for some a career. Those who make it a job could care less about the relatonship with the coach. They want to get paid and win, but someone who makes this a career wants the assurance in all aspects of their lives because to them they are devoting more than just time for a paycheck. When you find a coach who knows how to relate to the players and have a great football mind you got something special. Just from hearing the "good" Jaguar players all they can do is rave about him.

I wonder how the Steelers were questioned when they hired Cowher after Noll was gone? He was young and didn't have any head coaching experience in the NFL but "given the chance" he proved himself. I think Mike Smith will do the same.

i thought the steelers had a history of success, didnt they win 4 superbowls prior to cowher? why question success?

the falcons have a history of losing, of course some on this board say we're not as bad as the saints, cards, lions. i guess we're a team that can be classified as an upper class loser franchise

You're right they did have success under who? Not COWHER but Noll. Just because they had success with one coach doesn't mean they would with another.
